This artist fell through the cracks! Neil Leslie Diamond has been with us for 6 decades!!! This incredible singer songwriter has amassed a staggering 33 studio albums and 8 live releases...I know our esteemed MD member ...Jerome will appreciate this video from Hot August Night!

Hits include Solitary Man, Sweet Caroline, Cherry Cherry, Girl You'll Be A Woman Soon, Kentucky Woman, Thank The Lord For the Night Time, Red Red Wine, Shilo, Brother Loves Travellin' Salvation Show, Holly Holy, Soolaimon, Cracklin Rosie, I Am I Said.....on and on and on!

His 1972 live album Hot August Night is electrifying! The album was Number One in Australia for 29 weeks!

The one thing I love about this artist is that his songs are real...no fancy production and very dominant and strong as far as melody is concerned!

Nomination: Mark Knopfler

Mark Freuder Knopfler (OBE). Quite frankly, I’m surprised he’s evaded nomination to the MD HoF up to now, especially since we have a committed fanbase here. Anyway – it's clearly time to set the record straight, lol!

I think we all know his bio – beginning with Dire Straits, but he’s had an equally stellar solo career producing 8 studio albums, 9 soundtrack albums, and 4 collaborative albums, and is credited on no less than 115 others - no wonder then, that he appears omnipresent! The thing about MK is that his guitar has such a unique voice; he says he found that voice when he was forced to fingerpick a beat up old instrument with a warped neck that had to be strung with extra-light strings and that needed to be approached with care or potentially fall to pieces. Necessity being the mother of invention has never rung so fortuitously true!

Also – he has a degree in English which probably contributes towards his very articulate, intelligent lyrics – altogether no slouch, that’s for sure. He’s picky about how he presents and produces his work (and that of others) – justifiably so, and in addition, he’s constantly reinventing himself and tackling interesting new projects. His latest, Altamira, is a stunning soundtrack album, for anyone who cares to take a listen – just too short! And I could eulogise for another ten paragraphs but that would be a bore – suffice to say Mark Knopfler ranks as one of my alltime favourite musicians/guitarists, and that status is unlikely to change. I think he more than deserves this nomination and I'm hoping a few of you will agree!

His awards and honours comprise a list as long as my arm, so for the sake of brevity, here’s the Wiki - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Knopfler

Some of those (nothing if not diverse) credits! Such an unmistakeable sound ….

With John Fogerty, from Déjà vu All Over Again … he plays the second lead (right side) …
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_hfSEuaP64

With Joan Armatrading on The Shouting Stage … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5HkFqHnXQ8

With John Anderson on Seminole Wind … this is gorgeous IMHO – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1sea7LWxpE

And on Bryan Ferry’s Boys and Girls … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-1bWvVDhKQ

It’s impossible to choose just a few tracks from so many that I love, so, for now, there’s this, which stays with me – from 2012’s Privateering …

Allmusic sums them up succinctly as “Pop mystics of the 1960s and '70s, whose impeccably produced albums exuded pseudo-classical glory, driven by lush Mellotron orchestrations.”

There’s nothing much left to say that hasn’t already been covered somewhere along the way, so for fun, here’s a list of their studio albums, each accompanied by a brief and hopefully relevant bite of info:

Billy Joel, nomination for the Hall of Fame

I nominate Billy Joel (or Jelly Bowl as he is fondly known around these parts).

There are so many of his songs I know by heart, without even having to think about them, and I’m sure the same is true for many, many people. Who doesn’t, at the very least, know the melodies of “Piano Man”, “Honesty”, “Just the Way You Are”, “All for Leyna “, or “You May be Right”? The list is endless! What is most interesting to me is that whilst he hasn’t produced any new ‘pop’ material (classical, yes) in more than twenty years, the man continues to sell out live shows and is right up there with the bestselling solo artists of all time, having racked up an impressive 150 million album sales.

I like that he’s never been afraid to tackle, in song (and guns blazing, at times), subject matter which is important to him and those issues that are close to his heart. Born in the Bronx, he has an earthy sense of humour and is straightforward. No airs, a fighter and a humanitarian who seems to stay true to his roots and to his community. Having decided to cancel the release of his autobiography, he summed it all up saying "It took working on writing a book to make me realize that I'm not all that interested in talking about the past, and that the best expression of my life and its ups and downs has been, and remains, my music."

From wiki - "Billy Joel’s discography consists of thirteen studio albums, five live albums, fifteen compilation albums, ten video albums, sixty-two singles, three promotional singles and fifty music videos." I guess he's paid his dues! In addition to all that, Joel has won fistfuls of awards and been awarded multiple honorary doctorates by various institutions.

My favourite albums are The Stranger, 52[SUP]nd[/SUP] Street, Stormfront and Songs in the Attic. I also love this clip of him doing New York State of Mind with Micheal Pollack, who must have nerves of steel! Check it out – it should make you smile. Oh, and vote please!!! Thanks! mile:
