Acoustic guitar giant, godfather of alternate tunings, the greatest composer of solo steel-string works, record company founder. He succesfully welded blues, ragtime, hillbilly, classical, popular song, Indian raga's, Brazilian music, Musique Concrete - etc. Genius. Also in latter years very noisy, electric guitarist - with or without other musicians. All of this spread over a 40 year sort of career.

I've heard of John Fahey and a couple of his songs ...certainly a musical giant and genius!

I most definitely give a yes vote to Fahey. His folk songs are fantastic, especially since he often plays as a solo guitarist. His fingerpicking is brilliant, and his tunings are impeccably placed for his work with slides. Also, Womblife is one of my favourite albums. It explores so many textures and ambient serenities that I can't resist it when it comes up on shuffle, even if the songs are nine minutes plus long.
