  Your Local Rock Music Scene!
Posted by: Venejer_JoseM - 30-03-2008, 13:23 - Forum: Rock/Classic Rock/Prog Rock/Blues - Replies (1)

What's up guys?

I'm new to the site and I've been reading a lot of the threads and I can honestly say that a lot of you have great things to say and are very receptive to everyone's ideas.

First I would like to tell you a little bit about myself and the purpose of this thread...

I'm the lead guitar player of an alternative hard rock band based out of Miami, Florida (Im not trying to promote my band, but if you'd like to know about it, let me know! and I'll be glad to share my music with you) our music is along the lines of Sevendust, Incubus, Tool, and Alice in Chains...

As many bands nowadays, we are applying a DIY(Do-it-yourself) method...and so far everything has been working out great. We released our album independently, distribute it through many online sites, get great comments and friends on myspace and other online communities, and put on a great live show...However, being the case that we are from Miami, Florida and I don't know if you are all familiar with the Rock Scene down here... but, it is practically inexistent... We get gigs often, but we are not playing with bands that share our own genre...sometimes we play with Hip-hop bands..and other times with really pop-indie bands. Therefore, its a little harder to target and capture a specific audience.

I would like to know how your local rock scene is...and I'm talking about shows at pubs, bars, night clubs, I'm not sure if you guys attend or support your local music, but would like to know if your area is fond to promote and encourage local music , specially rock and what the audience response is?

Thanks in advance!
Jose M

Posted by: Venejer_JoseM - 30-03-2008, 04:37 - Forum: Please Introduce Yourself - No Replies

Hey guys, I'm glad to be part of such a great forum.
I checked it out before signing up and was drawn by such great people and comments I found.
I'm looking forward to meeting and talking to all of you.
I'm from Miami, Florida, 22 years old, and music is my passion.
I also play lead guitar in an alternative hard rock band called "Venejer", if you would like me to tell you more about it, let me know!

Thanks to all the members and admins for reading my post.

Rock on,
Jose M

  Foals = Awesome
Posted by: daudi - 29-03-2008, 15:27 - Forum: Off Topic Chat - Replies (1)

Foals are amazing. Thats all i can say, especially when most indie bands aren't really independent or at least good, and not always trying to second guess what we want to hear...

I'm just a bit hooked finding i've spent hours watching their random videos and all sorts.
: ) even got a couple of free live tracks off their myspace, so thats pretty good.

...i should stop talking now, but if you want to hear something actually worth listening to go and check FOALS out (if you haven't done so already). go to myspace.com/foals
Plus the free tracks they're giving away on myspace are quality.

Posted by: edkemp - 28-03-2008, 15:19 - Forum: Off Topic Chat - No Replies

You may have seen the recently announced Q Magazine Reader's Top 50 Best British Albums- do you really think Oasis deserve the top two spots?

We want to redress the balance and remind people that there's more to British music than Britpop and The Beatles. Tell us your top 5 best British albums and be in with a chance of winning £50 iTunes vouchers- there's also an extra prize for the most original list (ie. none of the albums appear in Q's list).

To enter (and to view the full top 50) go here:

http://www.ditto.net/Topics/BestBritishAlbums

You can also win £50 iTunes vouchers by picking your top new bands for 2008. Pick your top 5 here:

http://www.ditto.net/Topics/BestNewBands2008

If your favourite new band isn't on there, simply tell us in the comments box and we'll add them.

The competitions close on 31st March 2008.

  Interview with Stephanie Winters
Posted by: cincygroove - 27-03-2008, 15:06 - Forum: Classical/Opera/Modern Classical/World Music - Replies (1)

Classically trained cellist Stephanie Winters is a pioneer in bringing the strength and richness of her instrument to different musical forms and genres. More than 100 artists have sought Stephanie out to record and tour with them, including Corrine Bailey Rae, Paula Cole, The O'Jays, Dar Williams, and Anne Murray.

Since 2004 Winters has been a cornerstone of Richie Havens' live show, playing more than 100 performances a year in North America, Europe and Australia with the Woodstock legend. She played on Havens’ last release, "Grace of the Sun", and is featured on Havens' forthcoming CD "Nobody Left to Crown" which was just released in Europe and is slated for a 2008 release in the United States.
