Good to see they have not forgotten Mike Oldfield! Rowan Atkinson was brilliant with his take on 'Chariots of Fire' I enjoyed that. Paul McCartney - big ooops!

i dont get what all the criticism is of Macca's performance...i thought he was ok???
that said..The Arctic Monkeys did a pretty good version of Come Together...
i missed Rowan Atkinson????, sure i'll see it at some point through the Olympics...
also noticed they played a Pink Floyd track to some part of the extravaganza
i will be watching some of the Olympics, not sure how much, but its always good to see "the best of the best" do their thing, i am a bit partial to the gymnastics, diving, athletics and velodrome cycling

I thought the opening ceremonies were brilliant all around ! I will be watching as much as I can and for two small nations - namely my Canada and Crazy's Australia ...they do remarkedly well at the Summer Olympics !!!!!...the time zone is very convenient also...only 5 hours ahead of us so by 5 or 6 pm my time the day's events will be finished!

were 8hrs ahead of London so it doesnt start till late afternoon here and goes through till the early hours so i'll watch some of the replayed broadcast when i get up and when i get home from work,
im not sure the Aussies will win as many swimming Gold as they have in the past, but they are tipped to win a few more than usual on their bikes...
i dont watch it to see the Aussies win anyway, i just like to watch "the best of the best" whatever the sport may be....they are all winners IMO just for getting there!!!!!

I agree Lloyd. I love watching just to see the amazing things people can do with their bodies. Kind of makes me want to get my fat self moving. If they can do that the least I could do is jog.....lol

I also like to watch the brilliance of all the athletes but it's still great when my country wins a medal !

well,
took longer than i thought it would for crap to hit the so-called 'friendly games'...
one chinese swimmer has been accused of being injected with 'stem cells' to enhance performance
one chinese female doubles baddmington pair is in trouble over deliberately losing a game before the knockout stage to have an easier draw in the next round of fixtures....
no, im not pointing this out because they are Asian, im sure there'll be a lot more suspect actions occuring over the next eleven days of competition from other athletes from US,Eurpoe,australia... wherever....!
whatever, they should be sent home and banned from ALL international competition for life as far as im concerned!!!!...bloody cheats IMO!!!!!

At the risk of taking this forum off topic, but out of curiosity, any idea how they test for stem cells?
And how would you regulate something like stem cells?
Interesting note...
I heard that the American beach volleyball duo, after playing their full matches, head to the gym to lift weights as a way to cool down and let their muscles relax properly. That's just dedication. Can you imagine lifting weights after competing in several beach volleyball matches? The constant pounding on the sand and jumping and then you think "Oh, hey... we just won. Now I'm going to go lift. Amazing."
And yes, I'm with you on the cheating... cheating in the Olympics is a rough reputation to carry with you the rest of your life, but if you are choosing to cheat (at the Olympics no less...), I agree that you should be sent home.
