I know it sounds really far reaching and vague, but anything will do- I need to get my feet wet Paul Simon's collaboration with South American musicians and percussionists - 'The Rhythmn of the Saints'

And another one that I definitely regard as world music is Mike Batt's 'Caravans'. Plenty of drums (ethnic) combined with classical instruments. An amazing album and superb music. To this day I still regard it as the best example of the blending of classical and ethnic instruments. An album I always take on holiday with me. Never without it and I never tire of it. Not everyone's cup of tea though. Judging by your posts I think you will really like it. Give it a whirl.

Some underground British music is sick. Don't get into much world music though.
