Sixto Rodriguez was a protest folk singer from the 60's. Every home in South Africa has a copy of his album. Lyrics are incredible.
Mike Batt is a little harder to define - but his North African-influenced 'Caravans' remains the one album I am never without on my travels.

This is exactly why I started this discussion ! I wanted to get some masterpieces that I have never heard of before and now I can check out Mike Batt and Sixto Rodriquez. I'm familiar with Shawn Phillips but I haven't listened to him since the 70s.
Thanks Jerome.

All great choices folks !

Hey Crazy Horse,

I heard Heyday by The Church a couple of days ago. I enjoyed it since I had never heard of the band before. How does Heyday stack up against The Blurred Crusade in your opinion ? Heyday is from 1985 but the sound was unique and original even if it was released some 26 years ago !

Thanks,

SteveO

John Fogerty

The Long Road Home - In Concert

My pick because it is the only CD that I never skip a track on.

ok, IMO The Church were a decade or so ahead of their time back in the day, thus never attracted more than a cult/art student type fanbase, however over time their back catalogue has been seen to be more incredible than when it was released....just listen to the sounds they were making and that of fellow aussies INXS,midnight oil etc who were more radio friendly with super catchy tunes.
i think iprefer the "blurred crusade" mate just for the fact that over repeated listening it still shines, and there is also something new to be heard in the music with each listen.
"starfish" is probably another good album to seek out, in fact i dont think they made a bad album, just some are better than others, each one has a different feel to it.
my favourite track/single would have to be "under the milky way" from "starfish" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7cJVStGT2Y live version.....enjoy
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

Thanks again Crazy Horse,

I enjoyed Under the Milky Way and will definitely be checking out Starfish. They're an interesting band and I'd have to say that I didn't really enjoy Inxs or Midnight Oil. (don't care much for a lot of Canadian bands).I loved Land Down Under - Men at Work and also Hunters & Collectors. What's your opinion of Crowded House ? I vaguely remember them from the 80s.I believe you rercommended Woodface by them. Are they from New Zealand or Australia ? Their wiki is confusing, from Australia but were inducted into the NZ music hall of fame ?

Thanks for guiding me to another new band -The Church.
