U.S. Presidential Race 2012

Progressive, not leftist. Think anti-Ayn Rand... and remember, John Gault was a second rate plot device used by a third rate screeder.

As an international observer, I was wondering if there is an Independent candidate running this year for the presidency ? I remember in the past that Ralph Nader (Nader's Raiders) and Ross Perot ran as Independents. I can say one thing, Perot was very entertaining and colourful !!!...lol

Would it be safe to say that an Independent candidate would take votes away from the Democrats moreso than the Republicans ?
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!

Depends on who it was
Ralph Nader, yes, Ron Paul, no.

Yes there will be a third candidate.

Barack Obama
Mitt Romney
Ron Paul

That will be 2012

Don't think Ron Paul as a third party will happen.
Mainly because his son Rand is a republican U.S. Senator from Kentucky
That would put him in a very tough spot on choosing who to support
Wouldn't do that to my son, but that's just me.

Very good point. But here is the problem: The Republican Party is so divided that they can not get their nominee started to take on President Obama. It is a big problem. Republican party can not have anyone to unite. I am afraid that a third candidate will happen. I just want a Democrat vs Republican. I am a Democrat but I want a two race not a three way race.

one big problem for all who take on Obama....he was the President who oversaw the killing of Bin Laden and withdrew troops from Iraq and Afghanastan....both big election winning cards for any President anywhere!

As sort of an aside from the original discussion, but the topic has been brought up:

There are numerous "third parties" that are normally on the U.S. presidential ballot
As an example, in the last election, in addition to Republican and Democrat, there were:

Independent - Ralph Nader
Libertarian - Bob Barr
Constitutional - Chuck Baldwin
Green - Cynthia McKinney

please explain the US meaning of "libertarian" and "green"

here, they pretty much both mean "do gooders","environmentalists", "politically correctness"...you get the drift!

also, what does "constitutional" mean down your way?

my definitions:

Green Party - as you say, environmentalists (earth worshippers). Ralph Nader has run on this ticket twice before making his Independent run last time.

Libertarian Party - minimalist government. What I have considered voting numerous times, but always bail out, hating to "throw away a vote".

Constitutional Party - adhering strictly to the U.S. Constitution. What Ron Paul should be running as (always his mantra).
