Their music still catches the ear of today's generation. Basically their music is timeless. I feel that One Direction will not last nearly as long as The Beatles, nor will they make as big of an impact on the music industry. ...and if it werent for the Sun Records guys...Elvis,J.Cash,Jerry Lee,Carl Perkins, and the other early rockers like Chuck Berry,Little Richard,Fats Domino,Buddy Holly etc then The Beatles would never have existed!... as John Lennon once famously stated....before Elvis there was nothing!...

...and once again, another Lennon quote,
"if they were to rename rock n roll, they would just call it chuck berry"

Bravo my friend, you have put your thoughts on the screen and they are quite accurate. I will agree that 1D would not be as big as it is now(or ever) if it were not for The Beatles. Good thoughts, I like that.
When we sing, we want the world to hear us.
When we play, we want the world to watch. When we dance, we want the world to know us. We sing, we dance, we steal things. Human; that is all we ever are.

Let's just think about this for a minute...
yes One Direction are the "in thing" as of now, due to tones and tones of promotion, and yes they may even be popular in America... But to compare their size and impact to that of the legendary Beatles? Seriously? They are a boy band, they don't write their own music, they can't even sing without much required auto tune, I think one of the members can strum 2 chords on an acoustic guitar and that's about it. Let's face it, they're a bunch of good looking British boys with a tone of promotion, that America is swallowing up right now, in 5 years when you mention one direction, you will get a reply such as "UGH WHO?". Now now let's talk about the Beatles... The Beatles are from a time which wasn't very commercial, their was no Internet, not many radio stations and certainly not much TV. They didn't become some good looking pop band to make a quick dollar and be forgetting in a few years down the line, no. Instead they all worked together, writing (primarily John and Paul), played their instruments (very well if I may say so) and we're extremely innovative, original, creative and basically opened a door way for most music today. Even without such media sources as the Internet and less TV in comparison of today's, they still made a name for the selfs with their hard work. Even now, they are regarded as the most influential band of all time and try find an official list where they aren't ranked number 1. If the Beatles didn't exist, music wouldn't be what it is today, they arguably opened the door for Progressive and Psychedelic music and so much more, even those that aren't a fan, respect their legacy and what they've done to music. If they were to be reunited (and resurrected today ) they'd make one direction look like an unsigned band from manchester. When the Beatles hit America, they didn't just "hit" them, they BLEW THEM OUT OF THIS WORLD, and even today that remains the same, their impact has blown the entire world, and even shaped it differently (musically). Now what was you saying?
