Spotify listen:
newly remastered, polished, version of the classic musically groundbreaking "revolver".
can get it in various formats from the straightforward cd release to the huge 5cd/blueray edition or single vinyl to a 5LP set plus 7" vinyl edition to suit all budgets...
first disc is the new remastered stereo version produced and overseen by George Martin's producer son Giles.
theres also a polished mono version of the album and lots and lots of demos and early progression tracks, to me, the album was great and i have no need for this (Abbey Road is the only one i cared about in this deluxe format {thanks J-Man})
i find demo's and outtakes pointless for the most part, sure theyre nice to listen to once but apart from the odd nugget i would never listen to these again, so it would be wasted money (Abbey Road the exception IMO)
i get it and understand it, there is a market for these boxsets as the charts will show over the next couple of weeks but their longevity value is another thing...
the price of these is another issue, totally over the top and generally out of the reach of all but diehard fans with extra money to burn.
im sure they could have sold these for at least 30-40% cheaper than they are and more people would be open to purchasing them (maybe even me, who knows??).
three things i found interesting:
1: John Lennon's guitar/vocal performance of "Yellow Submarine" because John sung it it is obvious he wrote it and i would have always said it was a Paul McCartney song, so that was cool to hear that early version: Yellow Submarine (Songwriting Work Tape / Part 2) - YouTube
2: "And Your Bird Can Sing", my favourite off the album, was kinda funny hearing the band goofing around in the studio with this one: And Your Bird Can Sing (First Version / Take 2 / Giggling) - YouTube
3: "For No One", just the backing track (no vocals), just goes to show how different a song sounds minus vocals: For No One (Take 10 / Backing Track) - YouTube
regardless of these remixes/remasters, Revolver is still a great little album and years ahead of what else was around at that time,
it is well worth a listen if you havent ever done so, but keep in mind the time it was written and released and how basic music was in 1965-66, this was a real game changer in popular music and it was the album that made Brian Wilson sit up, take notice and up wht game with "pet sounds".
