I don't see reggae/Caribbean music getting much love so--one of the Maytals: Maybe a nice country song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeVRaxHtwuk << what a terrif tune to wake up to! Then hot bop into the kitchen to get your coffee with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRSwjhYmAY4 << this got some body-parts moving, yes?

Love reggae - always have. Robert Nesta Marley has to be the leading light in this genre. As kids, we used to listen to all his albums. Surprised so few people on this forum mention him. 'Uprising' and 'Exodus' being my favourites.

yeh...
im not a fan of Reggae really...i own a Bob Marley best of set on the old cassette format though.
would you call Desmond Dekker reggae or ska??? i like him.
i see reggae as one of those genres where there is little diversity...reggae is reggae, it has its sound and thats about it...!
Ska...
i like the UK ska bands from the late 1970s thru early 1980s because they infused pop with their sounds....Madness,The Beat,Specials,Bad Manners...those bands inparticular.
The Clash...i like the way they infused reggae sounds into their music 1980 onwards also.

Reggae has found it's way into many bands - The Police being one.

They used it as a tool to gain instant acceptance--it's not like they felt in their soul. These guys did: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HaN-eKtVns << this guy ain't fakin' it even a little bit, as this shows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jh_O3BGK_sE and 2 of of bunch of Brit groups who've made careers of it:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGDQ85Dg-ss and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2xAYdTFQzk << yes, these are both cover bands...as was every important ska/early reggae band via New Orleans ("...Turn the beat around...")

i had almost forgotten about The Police....
i used to like them back in the day but their music just turns me off nowadays...still love their "syncronicity" album though...
love Sting's "dream of the blue turtles" and "nothing like the sun" solo sets also....
as a footnote,
tickets just went on sale here for Sting and Paul Simon together on the same bill....starting price for tickets is $189.
im not going to see them live,as i said, went off Police Sting some years ago, and Simon, well, never been a big fan of his neither but he's okay IMO.

Desmond Dekker is a special case--Caribbean Black, yes. but from a mainland South American nation, British Guiana. So he absorbed and fused all manner of influences. Here's some: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9C9jLFiULc << an upbeat anthem for that Chicagoland woman and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-V9Y752OYs
