If you really want to see the ins and outs of the US presidential campaign, watch a movie called 'The Ides of March'. Riveting stuff. Mr Clooney is turning into a great director indeed.

question:
1. approx how many % of Americans would be called "swinging voters" do you think,i'd say its probably 40-45% here? 2. do people generally for arguements sake tend to vote for their local republican or democrat, then also vote for President of the same persuasion of do you think they might(in general) vote for say a republican to represent them, then vote for a democrat as President because they like the image they might present to the country and for the western world in general? i just ask these questions because here, people tend to through their votes in a particular direction because they want a particular party leader to become PM whether they like their local representative or not...! MH, you dont need to give your preference on the forum as to what you do(i can ask you that in a PM,but im sure i know your answer LOL), but just a general answer from your life experiences and observations would be appreciated, thanks mate!

1) I'd say it's about the same here. Each party tryes to appeal to it's base in the primaries, as that is who votes in them. Once those are over, they will make a gradual move to the middle, to attract those independents and those on the fence in the other party. Always the same no matter the party. Yet I'm always amazed when most of the media, and many voters axt all shocked when the move to the middle begins. That's politics folks. Get used to it.
2) I can only speak for Kentucky here. For some reason we usually vote democrat in local and state elections, and republican in national elections. As to the overall question, I'm not shy about my political beliefs when asked. You asked. I'm a conservative republican. I believe the less federal government the better. I'm actually probably more of a libertarian. But the republican party is closer to that than the democrat. I do realize there are always exceptions. You don't always get what you voted for. If two people think the same way on all issues 100% of the time, one of them's not doing his share of thinking. I do know my conservative views are in the minority on this site. That doesn't bother me. To each his own. Live and let live till you infringe on my rights. As far as the current president, I don't have a real problem with him. Haven't really been at odds with any of his foreign policy decisions, which is most important to me. Don't much care for a lot of his domestic policy, as in my view he supports as much federal government intervention in our daily lives as he can get away with. If as I suspect, he wins a second term in office, my world will keep on turning. I'll still do what I do ever day. I would prefer to see a republican as president, whoever the candidate may be. That is how I will vote come November. As far as the primary, I will vote for Gingrich, as I believe he is the most inteligent of the candidates. He will not win the nomination. Doesn't matter, as by the time Kentucky voting comes around (May) it will already be decided. I'm seldom on the winning side when it comes to the primaries. More of a feel good vote for myself.

I agree that Obama is the lesser of the evils. He has not single-handedly created the debt crises, it goes years back. He inherited more problems that he anticipated, and has been in the spotlight like its all his fault.
