ARIA Awards Announcement
#1
from Billboard

The Australian recorded music industry’s flagship ARIA Awards will be held Nov. 26 in Sydney, organizers announced Thursday.

Free-to-air broadcaster TEN will telecast the ceremony from the Event Centre at The Star, the setting for last year’s show.

This year’s 28th annual ceremony will cap a fine year for Australian artists. The likes of Sia, Iggy Azalea and 5 Seconds Of Summer have dominated charts around the globe, and the hits have kept coming closer to home. Eleven Australian albums have topped the national sales chart this year to-date, with homegrown artists holding the top spot for 19 out of 38 weeks. INXS’ The Very Best was the best-selling album of the first half of the year Down Under, thanks to the pull of the popular TV mini-series “Never Tear Us Apart."

Three Australian singles have reached the summit of the ARIA Singles Chart in 2014 and between they’ve held the top slot for 13 out of 38 weeks. During that time, Justice Crew’s hit "Que Sera" broke the ARIA chart record as the longest running Australian No. 1, when it held the top position for nine consecutive weeks.

“It’s pretty satisfying to have worked Australian music so hard for so many years and to see it now really coming through,” legendary Aussie promoter Michael Chugg tells Billboard. “It’s a good time for Australian music and it’s a good time to be a part of it.”

Performers and nominations for the ceremony will be announced at a later date. Public voting for four categories -- song of the year, best international artist, best Australian live act and best video -- opens Oct. 7 at ariaawards.com.au.

In a statement, ARIA CEO Dan Rosen comments, "2014 has delivered an extraordinary year in Australian music -- not only have Australian artists seen increased success locally, but they are making their stamp globally and we look forward to celebrating these feats on the ARIA Stage with stellar live performances, unforgettable collaborations and special guest appearances.”

The gala will be presented for the first time by Australian telco Telstra and supported by the New South Wales government, through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW.

National airline Qantas returns as a sponsor of the event and collecting society PPCA will sponsor the breakthrough artist category for the fourth successive year.

I'm thinking Iggy is going to steal the show, and the awards

yep...would be pretty stupid of anyone to tip against her this year for whatever she is nominated for.
5 Seconds Of Summer also.
