Musical Deaths 2023:
#61
^Quite possibly the best known pub sing-a-long song in the world. Even if you didn't think you knew it - you do! It's getting to that time where the old familiars are departing pretty rapidly - not cool at all. R.I.P.  Sad

Oh no! What sad news to wake up to! Think I'll just go back to bed.

R.I.P. Robbie Robertson - The Last Waltz is such a landmark in my journey with music. Forever grateful.

R.I.P. Sixto Rodriguez - whose sound and words are integral to the memories of a generation over here.

Both giants in their own different ways ... long may the music last.

RON S PENO  (70-ish)

Aussie punk rocker who played a big part in the early Aussie punk scene of the mid 1970s,
went on to form a fairly successful alt-rock band called Died Pretty with varying degrees of success between 83-2022

not a huge fan of Ron but his importance within the Aussie music scene cannot be understated:

best thing of his (circa '91 or '92)

Giants for sure. RIP Robbie & Sixto. The world is a poorer place indeed.

David LaFlamme – violinist, vocalist, composer and founder of the San Fransisco based band, It’s a Beautiful Day. He was 82 and had Parkinson’s. R.I.P.

From what I can gather he was a bit of pioneer in terms of rock violin. Urban legend has it that they missed an appearance at Woodstock thanks to the toss of a coin that went in favour of Santana, there being only one slot available. Such is life!

“White Bird” made it into the charts and that remains his best-known piece which he later also recorded solo - outside of the band.

I listened to their eponymously titled debut album in honour and enjoyed it – I’d pick it up if I came across it somewhere. There must’ve been something in the ether in 1969/70 because the intro to “Bombay Calling”, while not the same, is also not dissimilar to Deep Purple’s “Child in Time”. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there was a collective consciousness to do with music, sort of like other interesting and inexplicable means of communications – between trees, for example. But I am waffling … a taster - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ceMres1EuE

I do like the breezy album cover …

I love the following duets that Jimmy did in country music.

"Margaritaville" with Alan Jackson
"Hey Good Lookin'" with George Strait, Alan Jackson, Clint Black, Kenny Chesney, and Toby Keith
"Trip Around The Sun" with Martina McBride (I play this every year on my birthday.)

God bless you and his family and his musical circle members always!!!

Holly
Listen to my most favorite singer here sometime, James Otto that is!
