Squeeze Spot The Difference
The differences in this reissue between the original and the new versions are subtle, using only mp to do the review suggests that the quality of the tracks is higher but hard to really be sure of . Also the age of the vocals sounds different . Interesting that this was an early stomping group of Mr Jools Holland for a while before he moved onto other things!!!!!!!!!!
Track One Another Nail In My Heart: An excellent track with all the Squeeze trademarks .
Track Two Black Coffee In Bed: Good swinging pop music with instant appeal and good lyrics
Track Three Cool For Cats : With this familiar track you an find a few differences. The synth part is more mature and the production is so clear but the immediacy and vocal skill is still there and maybe even better. Nice new sounding kettle drum part in the middle too, which gives a maturity to the track here in 2010â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦..
Track Four Goodbye Girl: Again the synth shows improvement. The power of the original is still there though ! Nice Track always liked this one.
Track Five Hourglass: Donât remember this one from first time around, still sounds go though
Track Six Is That Love : Each of these tracks brings back great memories of the times. Difford and Tilbrook were great at capturing the feel of the times and this is reflected in each track here.
Track Seven Labelled With Love : Nice to See that Squeeze could change the pace a little
Track Eight Loving You Tonight: One of the strengths of Squeeze was the variety in their styles, this one has reggae overtones and is real easy to listen to
.
Track Nine Pulling Muscles ( From The Shell): One of their classics!
Track Ten Slap and Tickle : Again itâs the improvements in the electronics that are most noticeable here. Somehow this time this seems to have thinned the sound a littleâ¦â¦losing the impact that came with the original.
Track Eleven Some Fantastic Place: Not one I remember well but, a good track with a good feel a little bit of gospel in this one!
Track Twelve Take Me I´m Yours One of the early ones, that helped to build the band´s reputation
.
Track Thirteen Tempted, Again, not one I remember too well. Decent track
, but not that hard hitting.
Track Fourteen Up The Junction. The last track is one of their all time classics
, reflecting a long running Situation drama show shown in the UK in the 60´s and it has all the impact of that program which was one of the first real âKitchen Sink â dramas .. The writers capture well the feel of that era and it's depressing outlook on everyday working class life, it is tarnished a little in 2010's light but then it really tried to speak about everyday people and their often depressing lives
An enjoyable variation on the usual material we get for review ! An unusual approach to rerecord versions of your greatest hits, it has been done before by people like the Moody Blues , was it contractual problems, or maybe this is how recording companies try to get sales , I don´t know .
