Huey Lewis And The Newsâ¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦Soulsville
Huey is a seasoned campaigner , this is his ninth album. Huey has a good pedigree in the music business, having been a session man with Elvis ( Costello ! ) in his younger years.
Track One Donât Flight Itâ¦â¦â¦â¦â¦.At the moment it seems very trendy to go back into your past to produce an album and Huey is no exceptionâ¦â¦â¦â¦â¦.Here we have travelled back to the days of deep soul music and one can almost see the Blues brothers performing this oneâ¦.horns, deep soul voice and gospel backing.
Track Two Got To Get You Off My Mind: Nice gentle almost reggae beat track, which is soft and easy. Nice to swing along to and shows Hueyâs mellow melodic side.
Track Three News Free: Slow moody track , with good sax backing.
Track Four Respect Yourself: Comfortable track, with a good bass hook, somehow I expected a cover version of something here but it is not one!
Track Five Cry To Me : An authentic soul hook and gravelly voice drive this along. It has a great feel and some nice doo woop backing vocals . I like this track a lot !
Track Six Just One More Day : Sounds like âIâve Been Loving You Too Longâ . It has the same stand alone vocal style and the slow powerful backing . Another nice track!
Track Seven Never Found A Girl: A copy of grooving by the Young Rascals underlies this track but, it still has an identity of its own and a great feel !
Track Eight Soulsville: The Title track, and for this one we have a close little number with an intimate sound. Soul is always good when it gets personal and Huey can do that real well
Track Nine Little Sally Walker: A good bopping track with the aim of provoking people to dance
.
Track Ten I Want To Do ( Everything For You )You Really Got A Hold On Me clone, but, I feel that Smokie would approve !
Track Eleven Just The One ( Iâve Been Looking For ) Slow and easy temp song, with a swinging groove which evokes the slower end of The Northern Soul Classics of the seventies. Nice and Nostalgic !
Track Twelve Donât Let The Green Grass Fool You: Catchy finger clicking soul , lost love themes and We get a soul sob story!
Track Thirteen Never Like This Before: A driving rhythm and strong vocals make this a good track to listen to add a skipping beat and Huey has winner here!
Track Fourteen Grab This Thing: Here we are at the last cut on the album: Snorting sax and a slow walking the dog rhythm bring us to the conclusionâ¦â¦â¦â¦.all done with great style and a wonderful soul feel â¦â¦â¦â¦True instrumental soul at its bestâ¦â¦â¦..now there is something I really like!!!!!
At the end of my review I liked this album and would strongly recommend it to anyone who likes soul music !
