Has an album or a piece of music or liner notes ever made you go to a foreign country based on what you heard/read.
Shawn Phillips described a journey from Naples to Positano in a song called 'Landscape'. He painted such a vivid picture that I had to go and see for myself. And I found this place called Praiano just a few kilometers from Positano - my favourite spot in the world.
The poster included in the original vinyl release of Dark Side of the Moon had this strange image of the pyramids and I eventually ended up in Egypt. Fascinating place - would love to go back. (By the way I managed to pick up an original vinyl release complete with said poster and assorted paraphenalia in Montpellier last year - cost a fortune - but what the hell, coudn't pass it up )
Alan Parson's 'Gaudi' project, about Catalan architect Antonio Gaudi, who designed the famous La Sagrada Familia cathedral, inspired me to go to Spain.
The song 'Vincent' has always fascinated me. So I ended up in Amsterdam at the Vincent Van Gogh museum. Similarly 'The Diary of Anne Frank' was a setwork book at school, and I visted the museum in Amsterdam as well.
I remember reading a quote from a book (The Drifters - I think, by James Michener). It said, 'Men must inspect their dreams, and know them for what they are'. That's what I am doing. Bit by bit.
