Grammy Awards 2011
#1
This is the biggest awards show here in the states, which takes place in February.

Nominees have just come out.
Feel free to post who you want to win in each category
I will do the same at some point.
Of course, who I want to win and who I think will win are two different things.

from mtv

At this point, perhaps we can officially declare Eminem's comeback to be complete. He's already got the year's best-selling album (and a pair of the biggest singles), and now, well, he's the most-nominated artist of the 53rd annual Grammy Awards.

On Wednesday night (December 1), Em picked up a staggering 10 Grammy nods, including Song and Record of the Year (for "Love the Way You Lie") and Album of the Year (for Recovery, which is also up for Rap Album of the Year). He also scored noms for Best Rap Solo Performance (for "Not Afraid"), Pop Collaboration With Vocals (for his turn on B.o.B's "Airplanes Part II") and Best Rap Song (for "Lie").

Following (not so) closely behind him is Bruno Mars, who landed seven nominations, followed by Jay-Z, Lady Antebellum and Lady Gaga, who earned six apiece. B.o.B and John Legend are among the names who will head into the Grammys with five noms.

Eminem is back and deserves any win he gets...he still spits out rap better than anyone in the game, you may disagree but 'recovery' is the best album of his career.

only heard 2, maybe 3 tracks, and for me that sure isn't so based on those.

interesting selections MH, and on paper you are probably correct for the most part, but there are always a couple of eyebrow raisers at the Grammy's and this year will be no exception,

ok this is not because im a Neil Young fan, but i think he'll win 'best rock vocal' simply because he is a 'legend' they seem to like to give the odd award to 'old rockers' every now and then, but IMO Kings Of Leon deserve it...guess we'll see on the night

Don't want to rain on your parade Ch but this has got to be the WORST NY song EVER. Completely disjointed mess. He must be going senile. Also 'Best new artist' - Justin Bieber - give me a break! And what's the difference between Record of the Year and Album of the Year. The Grammys have become irrelevant. They are just adding more and more unneccessary categories to please everybody.

i thought Esperanza Spalding won 'best new artist'???

"le noise" would have been better had NY brought in the remains of Crazy Horse for one last time, i think you'll find i was convinced he would win for "angry world" a little further up the page for the following reasons:
1. he's a legend
2. he's never won a grammy
3. every now and then they like to give it to old rockers(didnt Dylan win one a couple of years ago?)
4. he has relented over the last few years and attends now

I'll put my 2 cents in on the show after I watch it.
No way do I watch this stuff live.
Three hour show which I will watch in about half that time later today probably.

Jerome - Record of the Year is for a single, Album of the year is for an album. I have more of a problem with the distinction between Record of the Year and Song of the Year, although I think Song of the Year is more of an writer recognition and Record of the Year is for the artist.
As far as the Grammys being irrelevant, do you know how many years I have been hearing this? Since I can remember. Obviously they are irrelevant to many, as are all awards shows. All these types of shows are an annual event for the insiders to pat each other on the back. It's entertainment for the rest of us. And we all like to see our favorites win. Give CH and NY their moment of glory. I haven't even looked at the winners yet. Surely there is someone I will have rooted for. This show will have drawn huge ratings as usual and sales will reflect the impact of the airing. Those two indicators will prove that the awards are indeed, relevant.
