#1
In response to the request by [B]TraceNspace..................I hope I have managed to set up a link which will allow us to review one of their recent releases.

To do this you will need to download and use the free user level of the file share program " Limewire"

Link http://www.limewire.com/download ...................use the basic version.

Then onto this page :

Link : http://torrentdownloads.net/torrent/1650...29+192kbps

( use download torrent and this only works if you have limewire installed and working!)

Down come 13 tracks and the cover!

So happy reviewing Cool

Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.

Just FYI,

Music Head has already posted his own review of this album some months ago.

Of course this doesn't mean it isn't a suitable album for this thread...

I actually downloaded this album a while ago after hearing the below song on Bob Harris' Radio 2 show. Only listened to the album a few times but from what I remember it was very good.

Definitely one of my favorite albums of the year. Or did it come out last year? I forget. Led me to look into their earlier releases, from which I haven't stumbled upon a bad one yet out of the 4 others I've heard. Love these guys.

The Avett Brothers I and Love and You
Country/Folk based music for the twenty first century!

Track One: I and Love and You: The slightly somber beginning to the album features a song in which we are in no doubt that lyrical content is important to this band. The feel is atmospheric, the mode is expressive …………..This song demands that you stop and listen and is able to involve the listener………

Track Two January Wedding : Country background song about a young man about to marry. Touching song !

Track Three Head Full Of Doubt , Road Full Of Promise Good wordsmithery in the early lyrics, made a good impression straight away: complementary instrumentation helps to punch home the intensity of the lyric. George Martin has said that all songs are an expression of some kind of walk through the subject material and this song has a gate all of its own…………………………….

Track Four And It Spread A bit more of the same here!

Track Five The Perfect Space Piano lead track with lyrics reflecting aspects of being an outsider. Slow and reflective to start with : then changes gear and reflects a rockier approach.

Track Six Ten Thousand Words Nice finger picking guitar starts this track, By this time, I’m looking for something different in the style but as yet ,it ain’t arrived yet.

Track Seven Kick Drum Heart Pacey track , nice arrangement which chugs along and holds the attention.

Track Eight Laundry Room Comfortable track with nice lyrical imagery.

Track Nine Ill With Want: Reflective statement about where a man is in life and how to move to a new position.

Track Ten Tin Man A little bit more upbeat at last. A reasonable song which is quite catchy!

Track Eleven Slight Figure Of Speech: Punchy start and a dancing beat make this one of the most enjoyable tracks on the album.

Track Twelve It Goes On And On: This track rocks along well and captures the interest of the listener quickly………..

Track Thirteen Incomplete and Insecure : Again in darker mood , piano led and somber, lyrics reflecting a lack of achievement…………………..

Solid country/folk , good in places but tending to repeat the standard tried and trusted themes and approaches. Vocals tend to be a bit too rough to complement the instrumental work at times. The plunking “ John Lennon Imagine style piano “ approach gets to be beyond tolerance at times too. The basic direction of this album tends to be a bit too pessimistic for me!Cool

Before I continue to give my opinion on this album, I feel that I should give you guys some "Jonathan History". I grew up and live in Texas. Thus, being the "rebel" that I am, I decided to hate country music for no reason. I know this is folk, but it fell into the same category for me. So this is probably the first folk album that I actually gave time to listen to, and I'll have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed it.

The album as a whole has been wonderful to hear. It was slow enough for me to enjoy, but upbeat enough to hold my attention. The opening track caught my attention, and I teared up a bit with the utterance of "I and love and you" at the end of the track. I don't know that it made me excited for the rest of the album, but it definitely set the mood for the rest of the album.
The next track, "January Wedding" was equally as strong, I cringed when I heard the opening twangs, but it was brief and the Avett Brothers vocals are captivating.
The album continues in an enjoyable manner. I never wanted to skip any tracks from sheer annoyance until I got to the end of "Laundry Room". I understand that my dislike for the outro of this song is merely opinion, but the album picks back up immediately after with "Ill with Want" and "Tin Man".
"Tin Man" is a great track. I love the horns, and the vocals are so passionate.
"Slight Figure of Speech" would join my favorite tracks from this album. It is upbeat and has a very different sound to it.

Overall, very enjoyable album. I would say that it is an easy one to listen to. Definitely changes my view of folk music and I would listen to another album by the Avett Brothers.

I'd say 7/10.
