CRAZY's 2019 purchases
#1
this year im going to do things a bit different

this time I will list all the releases in alphabetical order then post them the same way as opposed chronological release order like last year. (well, most were gift cards or gifts and not purchased with my money directly)

I will also pre list the albums in Alphabetical order (see below) instead of leaving them a surprise until I post them.
some of them I had forgotten i'd bought so they will be a surprise when I play them.
others will be a surprise to you guys (pleasant and WTF moments guaranteed!)

trivia:
16 of the 37 (40%) are by female artists which is a bigger percentage than I can recall purchasing in previous years.
12 of the 37 (33%) I cannot recall so these will be a surprise to me when listening.
04 of the 37 (11%) are by artists named Lewis (Christian and surnames)
05 of the 37 (13%) are debut albums
19 of the artists are American
07 of the artists are from the UK
07 of the artists are Australian

NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS "ghosteen"

release date: 4th October

17th studio album

estimated Worldwide sales: less than 100,000

charts:  #2 AU,  #4 UK,  #93 CAN,  #108 US

singles: no singles released.

first album by Cave since one of his sons died in a tragic accident in the UK two or three years ago
and this one is a double set, his first double since his brilliant "Abbattoir Blues/lyre of Orpheus" twenty five years earlier.
album is full of songs about death, loss..no different from most of his other works really, LOL.
but this time its personal  which gives the songs a deeper, darker, moodier, dour, more sombre feel
than anything he has ever released.
lyrically,it is an absolute masterpiece, probably the greatest set of lyrics he has ever written, and he's written a lot
of classy lyrics over the decades.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

spoken word track, the imagery in the lyrics is simply sublime IMO

CERNY BROTHERS "looking for the good land"

release date: 31st May

third studio album

no sales info

no chart info

no singles released

from Texas but Ohio born
album is what i'd term 'heartland rock'
hearing Gaslight Anthem, Springsteen, Mellencamp all over the first half
more "Americana" sounding on the second half
songs have a social conscience feel like the above mentioned artists.
the brothers cover all bases claiming they "were born into a Liberal family
but grew up in Conservative Texas so we see and hear all sides of it".
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

some catchy songs on here
theyre catchy on the ears
the cover is catchy on the eyes

but overall, a change of pace/sound to what i'd normally listen to

from Lala-Land
has hints of jazz and blues on some tracks but they are fleeting moments
sticks to her usual sound throughout
a couple of upbeat tracks (by her standards anyway)
as is typical with her albums, consistent with a few duds
but overall pleasant enough for my liking

from Lala-Land
just turned seventeen when this was released making her the first person born in the '00's to have a #1 hit
and album.
same sort of sound as Lorde, Montainge, Bishop Briggs, tones & I and Maisie Peters to name a few.
Bowie was right in his assumption that Lorde was the future of rock as so many female artists
have taken her sound and redesigned it for their selves.
great catchy songs on here but very dark
superb weird-ass videos to accompany the songs also which add to the whole experience
I LOVE THIS ALBUM:

JEFF LYNNE'S ELO  "from out of nowhere"

release date: November 1st

14th studio album

no sales figures available

chart: #1 UK, #12 AU, #47 US, #64 UK

no single releases.

UK rock band
continue their tried and true orchestrated rock sound they've been successful with since the early 1970s.
same melodic, almost Beatle-esque melodies they do so well
album sounds a bit flat in places, lacking the oomph of earlier releases
the album does however do their back catalogue justice
its not a classic ELO album but it has all the elements to make it thoroughly enjoyable to listen to.
on par with their previous release "alone in the universe" and like that album Lynne seems to be
looking back on previous achievements and glory days with all the cheesy fondness youd expect
from a guy now in his 70s.
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Scotsman
the experts call this Americana
not sure about that tag but there are tinges of country/folk on a few tracks throughout this one.
lovely melodic songs
unusual vocal tone, but in a good way
sounds like Lloyd Cole, probably others but im lost for it.
a classy collection of songs you can either sit down with indepth listening pleasure
or simply play as background music, works both ways for me
well and truly up there for best album of the year for me.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

favourite track could most definately pass for Americana
