They call them "portals" and there's all manner of interesting stuff in them, not just the customary and usual. Here'e the ones for Canada and Australia--came across them by accident:

It's good to see a reference to Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs. He almost made it here with Most People I Know Think That I'm Crazy, but glam rock conspired against him.

Thanks, Big Ears--makes my point about these Wikis covering a huge swath. May I return the favor with these Billy Thorpe pieces?

I don't know too much about Billy Thorpe, but he appeared to encompass a lot of styles. Another Australian who never quite made it here was Alan Tarney, who seemed a kind of genius to me.

Keep those tips coming, Big Ears--we have a good thing going on...and everybody benefits.

The Tarney Spencer Band were really good. A number of Australians with connections to Cliff Richard and the Shadows came here (allegedly and understandably) to avoid the Vietnam draft, including Trevor Spencer, Terry Britten and Kevin Peek.
I don't think I can suggest anything else Jazzbo. The Canadian portal, as far as I can tell, doesn't link to a number of interesting Canadian musicians, which are detailed on Wikipedia, so it probably needs more work on adding links. I have never contributed to, or edited anything on, Wikipedia, although I've been tempted a few times.

I agree! The Canadian portal is skimpy to say the least!
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!

Besides Rush and Celine, it needs links to Max Webster, Mahogany Rush, Pat Travers and KD Laing. But I suppose it is dependant upon a volunteer sorting it out. I probably drive people mad by championing Canadian (as well as Welsh and Dutch) rock bands wherever I go. Jazzbo's initial post is an interesting one because if you mention Australian musicians, for example, in the UK, people think of The Seekers, Rolf Harris, Frank Ifield, Kylie Minogue, Inxs and (these days) AC/DC. Likewise, with Canada, people would immediately think of Rush and Celine Dion. One of the good things about the internet is that it has brought more music from around the world (to a country starved of rock radio). There are lots of groups I would never have heard without the internet - Abraxas Pool, Frumpy, Spring, Starcastle. Subsignal, Sunstorm, Ars Nova, Bood of the Sun and lots more.

Mentioning kd lang (not busting but she prefers a lower-case spelling) puts it right in the sweet spot. Not gonna be lengthy but some tunes? Oh yes!

Not to forget she did a wonderful album with Tony Bennett pre-GaGa.

Back to Billy Thorpe....
He ended up in LA and scored the music for Star Trek:the next generation and several other TV series...
His best work IMO was his final, almost prog album, Tangier
