Wacko's Dead...
#1
Thought I'd post this here, as everyone must have an opinion.

Michael Jackson's gone. Don't really know how I feel about it...

On the one hand, he's been surrounded by controversy for years; Whitening skin, cosmetic surgery, kiddie-fiddling allegations etc etc...

I can't make a judgement about any of this, since the only info I have about it all is what's been reported.

On the other hand, I've always felt a little sorry for the guy. He's obviously had an amazingly successful life, but it's always seemed tinged with sadness.

On the music front, I guess Off The Wall, Thriller, & maybe Bad are fine works, but the rest doesn't do a lot for me. Don't think Thriller is worthy of being the biggest selling album ever, but it is a cracker...

Opinions, folks ??

Legend. Made some of the best records of all time. I'm offended you call him "wacko".

There was a really good thread a while back with Michael Jackson/Jackson 5/The Jacksons videos. One of the regulars was keeping it going with excellent commentary.

I tried a quick search but I could not find it. Does anyone else remember? I think we need to resurrect it.

I understand your taking offence, Jon. In the UK he's almost universally known as Wacko Jacko thanks to the redtop press, and the British disregard for good taste...

A legend. Elvis is remembered as 'The King'.

Michael will be remembered as 'The king of pop'. His music will live on and stand the test of time.

If your skin was getting blotchy everywhere, had that kind of fame, and had that kind of money, who knows what YOU would do.

Immensely talented and he probably handled himself far better than many of us would. I mean, I would be jailed for something or other for sure in traveling the world. He was very sharp at a very young age, and always a professional. His music making stopped for some reason, and I could never see him growing older than that. Somehow, I'm not surprised by his death, or anything for that matter. Freaks rule the world. lol

I think he'll always be remembered fondly, but with some stigma. It'll just be interesting to see how long that stigma lasts

I think the whole eccentric genius thing has been overplayed, obviously for profit.

The kid had a great voice and stage presence for his age. The Jackson 5, though largely a product of Motown, was a good one. They had some really good tunes that have already stood the test of time, and have transcended their teenybopper image as well as MJs cult of personality.

MJ had a couple of decent tunes between "Off the Wall" and "Thriller", but nothing as outstanding as it was all made out to be. Just a respectable shot at keeping disco on the map at a time when it was considered dead and irrelevant.

If you consider the music separate from the artist, it makes all of this much easier to sort out, though the media would have us believe that we need a zillion books, documentaries, TV movies, lost interviews, special edition mags, etc.

i strongly agree.. but i think his death is getting way too much attention and media coverage. even today we're still hearing stuff. did you know the same day he died a war hero who saved 30 people died? he picked up those people in a civilian helicopter because it was too dangerous for the military to. he went into a high risk area some three times and back to save those people! where is his story?
just goes to show how pompous and materialistic people are in the world today. we idolize a manic pop-star who wrote music but when someone put everything on the line for his country and people he is quickly forgotten and covered up by such a thing!
