George Michael dead:
#1
former Wham! singer/songwriter and successful solo artist George Michael has died,
although the MSN article doesn't say so, the radio says he died from complications from pneumonia.
not confirmed by any source but I suspect AIDS to be the primary cause:

heres the MSN article: http://www.msn.com/en-au/news/world/geor...li=AAgfYrC

Wham!, IMO, made several of the greatest singles in the 1980s, Wake Me Up Before You Go Go, Freedom, Last Christmas,
he then made one of my favourite albums of the 1980s with he superb debut solo set Faith.
and to back that up he recorded a tribute to Freddie Mercury with a blinding cover of Queen's "somebody to love", which IMO, was as good as Freddie's version:

God bless you and his family always!!!

Holly

P.S. I wasn't a fan, but if there is any song from him that I don't mind, its "I'm Never Going To Dance Again".

As if we had not lost enough music makers in 2016...yet one more. :frown:

^^ The song is actually entitled "Careless Whisper", and that intro is classic.

A couple of coincidences:

Despite the fact that I still hate that song "Last Christmas", it has been my earworm for the last few hours, as though I had some sort of premonition. Also as it happens I just ordered the album "Patience" a few days back, having finally located it on Discogs. In the meantime until it arrives I'll be listening to Ladies and Gentlemen a few times over the coming days, I imagine.

I was mostly dismissive of the music of Wham! when they were current. To my astonishment, George Michael transitioned from being a lightweight pop idol into a serious songwriter making "real" music at a time when the popular music industry as a whole seemed to have dropped the ball. R.I.P. George.

Probably my favourite GM song:

A rough year for music and it's not going to get any better. Never a fan of Wham or George Michael but he did have a good voice. RIP.

I doubt it. I don't know whether or not he was HIV positive, but if so he was almost certainly on treatment, and the drugs these days are pretty effective at keeping the virus in check.

He was very seriously ill a few years ago with pneumonia, from which he recovered - but apparently he had not been visibly ill in the hours immediately prior to death, and the cause was reportedly heart failure. That can happen to anybody, though it would not have helped that he probably used certain drugs a little more than was good for him.

i think a lot of people will realise just how good he was now he has passed as he was often written off during his lifetime as a "pop singer",
sure he made pop songs early on, some rap also (but that was forgettable stuff from the debut Wham! album)...
he could sing anything he put his heart into, from pop, soul,r+b, funk, ballads, dance etc.
I have the three Wham! albums, "fantastic", "make it big" and "the final" on vinyl plus a compilation on cd.
own "faith", "listen without prejudice" on cd,
for some reason I never bought "older" which contained 'fast love' and another great ballad 'jesus to a child'
and heard all of "patience" which was very good, and like bob_32, was so difficult to find, maybe the big music stores will have copies of
both those albums in stock over the next few weeks now he has gone.

heres Jesus To A Child if anyone is interested in it:
