Dave Stryker, guitar
#1
Probably the best guitarist most folks have never heard of (though they sure have heard him play). A decade in Stanley Turrentine's band and tenure-length in Brother Jack McDuff's before that. I use "tenure-length" advisedly--he is an Adjunct Professor at 2 universities, teaches privately and does workshops world-wide, and has one of the better jazz improv books. That he's not better known even with 31 CDs since '91 is due to recording on a Danish label and usually comes off as a sideman even in his own groups--he fronts a soul-jazz outfit and the organ or sax is prominent. All his albums are 4-star affairs (those graded lesser show better in the descriptions). He's done some surprising things--an odd-meter album, e.g.--and most are mainly self-written, but all please in some way. His Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Stryker AMG discog-as-leader: http://www.allmusic.com/artist/dave-stry...iscography And should you wish to get in touch, especially if you're a player: http://davestryker.com/ Here's Ron Weinstock's review of his newest, a revisiting of '70's soul classics featuring a special guest, that modern vibes master, Stefon Harris: http://inabluemood.blogspot.com/2014/03/...ykers.html Extracted from that is a nifty "making-of" video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5T5xoLlwsc

Your grasp of English is coming along well...or is this Google Translate? We have a contributor from Persia/Iran who has had problems with it...
