first up, one from the legendary, yet vastly underrated Roy Wood and his 1970s band Wizard.
for those who dont know Roy Wood along with Bev Bevan and Jeff Lynne were founding members of The Move and ELO...
due to creative differences between Wood and Lynne, Wood left after ELO released their debut album to form Wizard,
this song brings back a flood of memories from my childhood in the UK,
so here goes....

Celebrating Jesus' birth on 25 December is a total, knowing fraud--it was picked so early Christians could have a celebration day bootlegged inside a grand pagan holiday:

As an atheist, I ignore him as a religious figure but greatly celebrate him as a political radical. Herod the Great along with 2 Jewish sects saw him correctly as a severe threat and so had him officially murdered: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herod_the_Great You may need fantasy; I don't. Have a nice day.

FFS jazzbo....
Its a thread about "favourite Christmas tunes", not about anything religious or the merits of Jesus Christ so stop being so sanctimonious and holier-than-thou...
Your silence at this time would be greatly appreciated unless you have anything positive to add to the thread!

But Herod the not-so-great & his sectarian friends weren't bright enough to realise that the consequences of their actions was in fact to place him in an exalted position. They must be kicking themselves.......

Anyway my favourite Christmas song is Lennon's, closely followed by Greg Lake's.

Happy now, C-H? Question: How can an avowed atheist like I am be "holier-than-thou"? I will agree that there's more than a whiff of sanctimony about me...

I can listen to I Believe in Father Christmas by Greg Lake at any time of the year. The theme is from the 'Troika' part of Prokofiev's Lieutenant Kijé Suite.
Nat King Cole's On the Street Where You Live became a Christmas record by association as it was used on a TV advert for Quality Street chocolates. I like him and the song a lot.
Vaughn Monroe's Let It Snow is now famous for its justifiable use at the end of Die Hard, although it is about the weather and not Christmas. Written by Sammy Cahn and Julie Stein, it is a very atmospheric song.
I like Perry Como's version of It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.
Jona Lewie's Stop the Cavalry is not a Christmas record, rather it is an anti-war song, but became one because it mentions Christmas. The melody is based on the theme from Swedish Rhapsody No. 1 by Hugo Alfvén, and parts are reminiscent of Mozart's Rondo in D Major.
Jon Anderson made a Christmas album called 3 Ships, which contains traditional songs, including I Saw Three Ships. It is one of the best albums of its type. Glenn Hughes is one of my favourite singers, but his Christmas album is rubbish.
Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses has always appealed to me. The lead singer, Patty Donahue, sadly died of lung cancer at the age of 40 on my birthday in 1996.
Bing Crosby's White Christmas, particularly in the film of the same title, is very Christmas-y.

^ I tried to edit the errors in the above post and couldn't. I'll come back later.
This post I could edit fine. When I try to edit the above, the edit box is empty of text. Weird!
