top 20 songs of all time
#1
i have been pondering this question for a few months now.
i have written lists, then re-written them over and over again and now i am fairly satisfied with the list i have come up with.

so over the next 20 days i will post, in no particular order, what i consider to be 20 of the greatest songs of all time.

my list contains two artists/songwriters with multiple entries (one has 2 and the other has 3 entries).
there is one instrumental on the list also.
                                                                          1930                                                              1986.
the oldest song on my list was originally released in 1955 and the most recent addition comes from 1977.

so before i start are there any guesses on:

1: the two artists who have multiple entries
2: the oldest song on the list
3: the most recent song on the list
4: what the instrumental track is

i will start the list on Monday 17th April to give you all a chance to think about your guesses.

see the 7th post in the thread for further date info before answering.

Don't know if I could list a top 20 - would take some serious pondering!

I'll take a wild flyer ....

1. Paul McCartney and Neil Young
2. Something by Elvis Presley
3. "Like a Hurricane"
4. This is a tricky one - all out of ideas here! Sooo for want of any other inspiration - "The Theme from The Magnificent Seven"

I think one of them is Mull of Kintyre by Paul McCartney.

Abba has to be in there somewhere as well. Probably 'Waterloo' or 'SOS'.

For the instrumental I would probably go with Albatross or Green Onions.

Elvis has to be on the list as well somewhere. Probably Jailhouse Rock???

Baker Street is also a contender. I hear it on radio stations all the time. But it was released in 1978 so I guess that's out.

Bill Haley and the Comets - Rock Around the Clock - my choice for 1955

Simon and Garfunkel - either Sound of Silence or Bridge Over Troubled Water
Imagine by John Lennon

Oooops, sorry folks,

i just realised that one of the tracks dates back to the 1930s (when written) so 1955 is way off.

and another track i thought came from the mid 1970s was actually from 1986.

so forgive me and please re post your guesses for oldest and newest tracks on my list.
