The only artist I can remotely think of may be Gil Scott Heron? Other than that I have no clue. Perhaps another member can give you a definitive answer.

Could be a one-off project by Mr. Scott-Heron but mostly he did songs with vocals (political ones at that). I don't have a clue.

I made a fundamental error and shame on me. I didn't like the intro or middle section and thus didn't listen to the ending, which was instantly recognizable. A humbling experience.
