George Kooymans – born 11 March 1948 in The Hague, Netherlands. He is Golden Earring’s lead guitarist, and has been since 1961. He was inspired to write “Twilight Zone” after reading Robert Ludlum’s Bourne Identity – the track appears on the 1982 album Cut, (cool album cover ….) – it went on to chart at #1 in the Netherlands, was their only top ten pop single on the US charts and hit #1 on the Billboard Top Tracks. I’d have thought it would’ve been Radar Love (which only got to 13)! Who knew??

The album cover

Love their Moontan album. Like the spacey feel of it.

James Taylor was born this day in 1948. The quintessential singer/songwriter - very successful, and deservedly so IMO. He has a huge catalogue of work and it’s virtually impossible not to know at least some of it. The Sweet Baby is a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, has been awarded 5 Grammys in the course of his career, honoured on numerous occasions and received various different accolades for his contribution to music.

When in doubt – James Taylor … that’s my mantra! He can totally be relied upon to soothe the soul.

His breakthrough, in 1970, came with this hit single -

he has a very large back catalogue and cudo's to him for being a survivor in the business, i have a decent compilation of his music...
i just dont think he is anything above 'average'...i just cant really relate to him or his music and say that i have no more than having a "passing interest" in him.

im going to cop a lot of criticism for those comments so im bracing myself.....

^He’s fairly undemanding in terms of listening, which for me, has a definite place – but for others, maybe not. It’s such a personal thing – to each their own. Don’t know why, but I’ve never been able to listen to Johnny Cash at any great length, which may earn serious disapproval from some quarters, lol!
