Your Favorites - Let's Hear Them

Some good suggestions so far! For me, while identifying a favourite Dead show is problematic, choosing the penultimate version a single song (either original or cover) among dozens, scores, or even hundreds of performances is like sand in the tide; a fluid margin that can change with a newly discovered recording or simply your mood on a given day!

Yet, I can confidently say that - for my taste, at least :cheer2: - the following is, and has remained, my top version of "The Music Never Stopped", which, among a performance catalogue of 300+, is also one of my favourite songs. Of course, that 3 night run at Winterland from 6/7-9 capped the uniformly brilliant Spring 77 Tour.

As with most of my top GD shows or trax, this one is almost all about Jerry! He launches at 3:07 with magnificent articulation of the song's basic theme over the next 2.5 minutes before firing all boosters and leaving the atmosphere at 5:45. Additionally, JG's historical love affair with - and technical proficiency on - the banjo is evident by his rapid-strumming of the guitar to close at 6:05......then Bob stumbles out of this incendiary jam seemingly dazed while fumbling the usually perfunctory set-break announcement to the crowd - but, who can blame him? He was at ground zero! So, if you're still awake, have a listen Smile

No. Wrong. Totally bogus. Not the song * or his singing--it's the song title hijacked from this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9uRlNw0XIQ << Mr. Weller suffered either a temporary lack of imagination or a brain fart--your choice. Want a version a bit less sweet? :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vV2_otzuznc << A bit gay for some (but so was Cole Porter) so let's go with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vXiiQB-Znc << Always loved Mr. Porter's internal rhymes and wordplay. Then there's Bryan Ferry's nuevo-retro version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3joTM0gntGY

* I actually like the song especially this version but doubt it will survive as a classic for 85 more years.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtCeTcI9vZU

Welcome aboard, Kate. You understand that penultimate means 2nd-best or over-shadowed by another? Confusing word--many take it to mean the ultimate best. About your emoticon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5_cbt7C1UQ

we may as well stay in the 1970s now with America and their greatest song, well IMO it is anyway!

Here's an overlooked minor masterpiece from the Beach Boys--a guy talking to his sister's boyfriend: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cNqLBtORg4 << Chock-full of those Brian Wilson harmonies.
And yes, C-H, that was just about the best of the pre-Michael MacDonald Doobies--don't know if they would have made the Opry with his emissions; they were more Soul Train/Apollo Theater with him.

From little Iceland, this amazing live performance! When I see and hear the gal trumpeter at the 2:10 mark I get chills! Great song and the ultimate connection with those that mean the most...the live audience...more to come from Of Monsters and Men...I am certain the dynamic Bjork has influenced the band! I can't believe this amazing artist turns 50 this year in November!!!!
