1. i am not supplying you with an email address

2. i havent got 30 minutes to sit and complete a survey

This is a beta test to prove that a new predictive analytics algorithm works. I posted here because it looked like a good community that is passionate about discovering new music. There are, on average 75,000 new songs released every week. There is no good filtering system that customizes recommendations to an individual's preferences. You like different songs than most other people; a recommendation algorithm absolutely must take that into account. Nothing on the market today does that.

Thanks for taking a look, though. Most people are actually completing this in a little over 10 minutes. It depends how long it takes you to make a judgment on a song. I believe you are wrong though. If enough people took this survey or if and when this technology is implemented with a large streaming music service with millions of users, you would be matched with music fans whose tastes are equally eclectic to yours, and so the recommendations would be high-quality.

The survey is simple: rate 20 songs and provide the name of five songs that you love. The algorithm will measure which other survey participant has the most similar taste in music compared to you, and it will recommend the songs that you said you love to that person and vice-versa. It’s more complicated than that, but that’s a simplified explanation of the intuition behind the business method (patent pending).

Thanks for the feedback though. This the first test I'm running with the idea, so the feedback is helpful.

No one has actually taken more than 15 minutes on this survey. I agree it's a bit long to spend to get recommendations, but when the technology is actually implemented rather than just being tested using a survey, it will be incredibly quick and easy to use, and it will dramatically increase your efficiency in discovering new music. Right now, I'm just trying to prove that the algorithm actually works.

There's an inherent distrust of these kinds of things--no matter the highest, most altruistic of intentions, they always wind up getting used to breach or circumvent our normal human consumer defenses. That's why obesity, for example, has reached epidemic proportions...and why writers/performers/ industry insiders will use it to produce even-more tailored music, instead of deeply-felt music from the soul.
On this Board we pride ourselves in digging out the hidden nuggets from newbies and old-timers alike, and presenting even older material in a new light. I fail to see how your project can be of any benefit to us, directly or indirectly. Wish you all the best in peddling to others though. Mi dos centavos as a Contributor only.
