i love the idea of a 'record club'...sounds similar to a 'book club' or a 'movie club' thing whereby people watch/read the same book/movie then analyze it n a group...
i think i would join one of those if they had them here...or better still, i should start one!
as for vinyl...
yes it is regaining popularity worldwide...
probably because it is a 'retro' thing and the whole retro clothing/furniture culture is now turning to music...
and speaking of 'retro'.......
i even read somewhere a while ago that young people in Melbourne/Sydney are now buying the daily newspaper and reading it because of the novelty/retro value of it and sales of daily newspapers have started to increase for the first time in over a decade.
My God, if things keep going backwards we'll all have landline phones and VHS in a few years....LOL

Landline telephones can never go away. If you have a pacemaker heart implant, you can't use a cellphone or you'll kill yourself--you need a landline. VHS should all be recycled and never return--it was "kludge", interim technology.

they experts said in the mid 1980s "vinyl is dead,they'll stop being made by the end of the decade"...it didnt happen, a few of us still bought them and theyre making a resurgance now...

My comment about landlines was about a situation--why was it taken personally? If anything, it was about why you should never take the collective "wisdom" of The Experts about trends to heart but instead use your own judgement.

You cannot beat the depth and resonnance of a good quality vinyl pressing on a decent turntable, with stylus and cartridge to match. Unfortunately, good pressings have been few and far between and, long before CDs appeared, I was sick of surface noice, static, warping, manufacturing defects, scratches from offcuts left in the bag and just about everything else. CDs and digital recordings lack warmth, I agree, but give them to me any day. My hearing is not what is was anyway, so even Mp3s are okay by me (as long as they are 320 kbps). I say all of this as a person with a £200 JVC direct drive, quartz lock turntable with an Ortofon cartridge (1981 prices).

I've got a D4 Discwasher for my LPs. I bought it in the Tottenham Court Road in London, over thirty years ago. It still works. I also use a Zerostat anti-static gun which still works too (it's also good for polyester trousers).

Per reviews on a sales site, the old D4 Discwashers were indeed the best *, but have suffered cheapening design defects over the years. The current better is a Stanton VC-1. The Zerostat is also a wise choice.

I am surprised that the D4 is still available, and disappointed that it is now being criticised for poor quality. They must have been bought out. One person on the Hoffman site said it damaged the print on one of his record labels!

Cleaning is not a problem restricted to vinyl. I recently bought a used CD and washed it with water, but there were some splash marks that I could not remove. I haven't tried descaler in case in melts the CD! I once read a funny article where someone said he had heard that you could repair scratched CDs with toothpaste, so he tried it on an item in his collection. He found that, not only did it fail to work, it also made his CD smell of mint.

Another reason to accumulate/ collect vinyl--there's a ton of stuff out there, 45's most particularly, that may never make it to CD (unless you count some obscuro comp. accumulation-of-artists-in-a-style disc).
