EARTH,WIND AND FIRE "boogie wonderland" B/W "instrumental version" 1979

i love EW&F.....
i would love the "A" side had it not have been for that stupid 'boogie' word, so it drops a star for that...lmao!
"B" side...just an instrumental version of the "A" side...probably good for karaoke, but not me!
single reached #6 on the Australian singles charts...

DONNY & MARIE OSMOND "im leaving it all up to you" B/W "the umbrella song" 1974

i used to cringe when the Osmond name cropped up, but since seeing a doco on the family a few years ago
i now have a new respect for them as musicians/performers/a family and as people....
i like both sides of this single, even if theyre still corny in their own way...
this single failed to chart in the UK for some strange reason???

Not entirely instrumental--there are BG vocals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dmqugct3TL8
And Bro C-H I like'm big time too--appreciate the Post.

JIMMY RODGERS "the long hot summer" B/W "oh-oh,im falling in love again" 1958

1950s-60s pop singer, not to be confused with the country singer of the same name....
"A" side was the theme song for the movie of the same name, its almost what youd call a crooner track...
"B" side sounds remarkably similar to his debut hit single "honeycomb" from the previous year..but hey i still love it.
BTw, my favourite track i know of Jimmy is still "english country garden"
the single peaked at #13 on the UK charts...

back up to the 1980s again now....

ALTERED IMAGES "happy birthday" B/W "so we go whispering" 1981

i have this single in my collection also...
my dad often liked the 'off-beat', 'kooky','novelty' type songs and this follows that trend to a tee....
"A" side is off-beat anf slightly kooky i guess...Kate Gorgan's vocals are annoying after a while(say two minutes or so)
but i do like that track...
"B" side is a bit too out there for me...almost Bjork-esque vocally...
single peaked at a lowly #30 in Australia

THE MARCELS "blue moon" B/W "goodbye to love" 1961

a return to doo-wop once again with this classic....
i love both sides of this single...
i love their lead vocals and harmonies...
the "A" side is one of those all-time classics that would have been a hit in any era of popular music IMO...
single went to #1 in the UK and rightfully so

DION "the wanderer" B/W "the majestic" 1961

two doo-wop artists in a row...now thats cool!
"A" side is classic doo-wop/rock and roll..
it remains,IMO, one of the greatest rock songs of any era...
Dion made two absolutely great songs as a solo artist, the other "runaround sue", which im sure my dad has in the singles box also...
"B" side sounds very similar to the "A" side , and just as good IMO...
great tracks from an artist who should have stayed around longer than he did as a charting artist...
single reached #1 in the UK
