Hello! As mentioned in the title, I'm a metalhead, and I want to get into jazz stuff.
So, I'd love to hear suggestions similiar to Felix Martin's creations. I quite enjoyed Weather Report's stuff, but it's a little bit too over the top with the non-musicality at times.
I think the things that most often throws me away are monotony and steadyness of the songs. I like when the songs are written in odd tempos and include pauses as a normal asset in the groove composing.
Also, 90% of the music has to be the rock instruments (drums, guitars, bass, keys), preferably in the full squad.
Feel free to bend the rules, please forgive me for not knowing a thing about this type of music and maybe introduce me to the genres of jazz.
Please leave a lot of suggestions :)

Hip-hop has made great inroads into the jazz idiom. I don't know what could lead you to jazz but look into Stanton Moore * and similar in that community. This list comes at it from the hip-hop side but may be of some value:

* I've met Mr. Moore a couple of times, and he's a warm, open guy willing to share. He's open to near any music genre. Get in touch.:

Hold on now--it seems there's others who share your feelings and expectations:

SpyroGyra and similar are jazz fusion groups--I well understand your not having much truck with them. A bit, er, fussy and they don't get to the point very quickly.

Thanks for the reply! I'm just going into the sites you mentioned, although I don't really like Hip-Hop or wind instruments (usually). Already found a band I might get into on the spirit of metal site

Mighty glad you found value in my post--that's why we are a true community here. I don't/ we don't have to like a genre to be of service.

That song was awesome

I've looked into it before posting, but I often stumble onto terrible gain-hip-hop bands, and I'm not too much about that.
Another thing I realised - the biggest problem for me is how many bands tend to "taste" the chords in a progression, what R_burke posted is the opposite and I very much enjoy that. I think I just need something fast and based on minor (or other "sad" scales) scales.

Shining, the first one on the list in the link is pretty cool, I also liked Exivious, Akphaezya (egyptian metal!) and The Bakerton Group.
