Definitely the seventies, I wish I was back there now. I think the nineties are second because the seventies rock bands made a comeback after grunge. I did not like the eighties, as we were deluged with synthpop and acid house in the UK. After the nineties, most music new passed me by as I am not interested in boy bands or rap.

I think every decade has some very special music and performers that we all remember. For me the 1960's was that era. We had Elvis. The Beach Boys, Motown, Connie Francis, The Four Seasons, Leslie ore, Sam Cooke and The British Invasion.The list is too much to compile here. We also had Psychodelic music. We also had much turmoil because of the war. The 60'smusic was very special, way back in the day!

You know what? I get the rage and frustration of the present tsunami of crap and the egregious, and as somebody working their music, you are doubtless frustrated beyond belief. But I say with a straight face, we live in one of the better places in modern history because of all the outlets available. Tremendous more work maybe to find quality but it is out there. I like to think I've brought some of the fruits of some great current artists' labor to this place but it's really not that hard. Times have changed, tastes have (somewhat) changed, modalities have changed, we've defined deviancy down. What hasn't changed are some folks screaming need to make their essential statements, no matter the challenge, no matter the medium, no matter the genre, no matter the era. Do we have 20-30 great soul artists competing for attention? No--we have maybe 10. SO FIND THE 10 AND SUPPORT THEM and give up the whimpering.

I have to disagree with the comment about "current tsunami of crap" jazzy....
Well,to an extent anyway.....
There are a lot of good bands out there right now but unfortunately they don't get the airplay they deserve.....
To name a few:
Arcade Fire
The Moons
Black Keys
Kings Of Leon
Tame Impala
My Morning Jacket
Lumineers
Avett Brothers etc,etc

Biggest problem I have is sorting through the crap to find the nuggets....
Music has been that way since the late 1980s IMO

I disagree with putting Elvis in that list.....
Now I'm a huge fan of The King but between say 1962 and 1968,a period of seven years,his music was well below par due to those stupid movies and movie soundtrack spin-off singles from them

You do have a valid point. I still wonder if Elvis was happy in the rolls the studio made him play.

I don't believe so....
I remember reading something once,Elvis hated those mid 60s movies,hated the songs and lack of script but was tied to it by the contract Parker signed on his behalf...
Wasn't until around 68ish when he realised no writers were offering him good songs that he questioned why....end result was no writers wanted their songs associated with Elvis because of his stupid movies...
Elvis then,with Priscilla's backing had the guts to stand up to Parker...
The so called "68 comeback special" was Elvis' way of letting the world know he was still able to perform...

Was also around that time he vowed to atop making those movies.
By 1970 he had two contractual movies to make, he apparently got movie bosses to agree to let them be concert movies, thus "that's the way it is" and "Elvis in tour" became his last two official movie releases...
"aloha from Hawaii" was not regarded as a movie but instead a concert

C-H--I admit to being a little over-the-top in my remarks ( poorly edited late night posting) and your list is valuable. Principally, I was standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Jerome in his remarks--I could/should have phrased it differently. As penance (?), I'll be putting up a Post on Dave Grohl and his current docu doings, exposing some terrif music all across the US. << JazzboCR, backing off mightily...
