Hey everybody! First time posting here, and I'm hoping that I don't accidentallly commit any kind of forum faux pas lol. But, basically, I LOVE music of all types, but one of my FAVORITE "types" is Epic music. Now, I realize that Epic varies from person to person, and I respect that. I'll provide examples of my current "Epic music" playlist on my ipod... but as a kind of high level overview, what makes a song epic to me is it starts off slow and melllow, there's a buld, it EXPLODES (sometimes more than once!), then slows back down, and has a gradual close. It includes at least one amaazing guitar solo, but that's not necessarily the crescendo, it just helps build the song. So, without further adieu, here are some examples. I won't include the givens like Stairway and Won't Get Fooled Again, but I certainly consider those Epic. I'll also include the artists though for most of them it probably won't be required lol.
War Pigs - Black Sabbath
Foreplay/Long Time - Boston
This Is The End - Doors
Sorrow - Pink Floyd (Especially the version off Pulse)
High Hopes - Pink Floyd
Can't You Hear Me Knockin' - Rolling Stones
Turbo Lover - Judas Priest
No More Tears - Ozzy
Maggie's Farm - Rage Agaiinst The Machine
Bleeding Me - Metallica (I haven't heard the original version, only the one on S & M; one of my most quintessential epic songs)
Parbol(a) - Tool
Manic Aeon - Sirenia (Pretty obscure I know; doesn't really have any guitar solos, for this one it's more the dichotomy betweeen metal growling and crushing guitars immediately followed by melodic, classically trained female vocals)
Most anything by Opeth - (Kinda like above; acoustiic, chill, then punches you in the face with crunching guitar riiffs and ripping badass solos)
Heaven and Hell - Black Sabbath (Dio days)
Hopefully that's enough to give you guys an idea of what I'm talking about! I look forward to your responses!
