Jerome Wrote:A couple of points

Someone once asked me why I decided to not have any children - I told him that I felt I was too irresponsible (which I was at the time) to have any. His answer was - 'Well that's a responsible decision' - go figure.

Yes you are right - many people think that they can fill the void in their lives by buying stuff. Or by constantly rewarding themselves with bits and pieces. It is becoming a disease of epic proportions. I watch people in the company I work for - an American multinational by the way - and they have to have the latest and the greatest of everything. There's a brand new BMW/Merc in the parking lot but he/she does not have the money to fill the tank. Crazy to carry on like that. It's all about stroking your own ego. As for collaborating, you might just have something there - will have to give it some thought. And as for song writing, I have written hundreds. Just never recorded them. Finding good vocalists to interpret them and deliver a performance is an expensive exercise. I have tried session vocalists but never really been too impressed with the results. Anyway, I digress - pursue your writing - it's only a matter of time before someone snaps it up. As for people thinking you are criticizing them in their various 'careers' - they just have not got past the 'me' stage yet. But they will. Then they will see their existence for what it is. Must watch Ivory Tower. The education systems of the world are not encouraging kids to learn about the subjects they naturally gravitate towards - it's 'breeding' new employees for the industries that require young blood to keep the shareholders happy. End result = one very large unhappy workforce. As Bob Marley once said - 'Every day the bucket goes to the well - one day the bottom will drop out'

I love your friend's response, Jerome! Very wise. It looks like "American values" are everywhere. Darn it. But you nailed it. Big cars, lots of "stuff", but no substance. It's depressing.

I don't have any specific idea for a project, and I would never claim to be a songwriter! But I thought maybe a auralscape to accompany some writing, might be kind of cool. I have no idea how that would work, it's just an oddly interesting idea about how to combine music and writing in a package. I have a *ton* of half-baked ideas! Some work, though! *laughs*

Oooh, oh oh oh!! Have you seen Sir Ken Robinson's talk on why our educational systems are so completely outdated? It's fantastic!!

Bob Marley was a wise, wise man. I'm glad he left such wonderful music and profound (and quotable) thoughts!

Cheers!

Just an idea - but a short story for radio combined with the right kind of background music could be an idea. So many people 'watch' music these days. It limits their imagination. People prefer not to think - they want to be force fed everything. Many radio programs use music to accompany a story, but it's normally existing music as opposed to music specifically created for a particular story. And there's one place people can't watch music (or shouldn't be doing so anyway) - in their cars. I still think radio is an extremely powerful medium. I don't know if you have ever tried audio books. I listen to them quite a lot. They force you to imagine the scene instead of having it presented to you - as in a movie or TV programme. That's one idea anyway - I will come up with more. The trick is to start with a small project and see how it pans out.

BTW - I had to look up loquacious as well! You learn something every day.[h=1][/h]

Bless you for continuing to point (pull?) us back to the music, SteveO! I love this! It's really beautiful!

You guys have no idea how happy you make me when you tell me you look stuff up! I'm grinning ear to ear!

As far as your idea goes, Jerome, I love it! What a fantastic idea! Radio shows used to have music to accompany the story, why not a short story in audio form! I have to admit that I have not been a huge fan of audio books (*cough*controlfreak*cough*), but I'm trying to give them a chance. I eased into the audio scene with the Harry Potter books because I loved the man who read them (his name escapes me right now). I'm working up to others. *laughs*

Cheers!

Totally agree with Jerome and a strong kudos to Mary. As a life-time divergent thinker who eschewed socializing so as not to surrender to "groupthink", I pledge allegiance to Sir Ken Robinson. This is a deep, original but easy to grasp video.

That is so beautiful, Jerome! I found this photo while I was listening and thought it kind of fit! (I was looking for a panoramic video of ocean tides, but had no luck, though I did find lots of mountain panoramic videos!).

It's funny how you latched onto that 'panoramic' thing. I was actually walking along a hiking trail on the Amalfi Coast in Italy when this one popped into my head. (The Walk of the Gods) - a trail high up on top of the mountain with sea way down below. That's why I tried to create the sound of the waves in the beginning as if they were far away but still audible.

And as for panoramic views - the piece is called 'The Great Expanse' - go figure!

Can't see the attachment for some or other reason??!??
