THE STYLE COUNCIL "have you ever had it blue(uncut) b/w "have you ever had it blue(radio edit)" & "mr.cools dream" 1986

i love the full length version of the "a" side of the 12" single...the build up of instruments in the intro are brilliant IMO...
just the whole way it builds and builds is awesome stuff...
"b" side tracks are those of the 7" single

ROLLING STONES "19th nervous breakdown" b/w "have you seen your mother, baby, standing in the shadows" 1966

loving the "a" side, great Stones stuff IMO
hating the "b" side, theres simply no melody, rhythm or anything else going on here
single only reached #24 here, but the UK dedeemed them there with another #1 hit

JIMMY BARNES "ride the night away" b/w "paradise" 1985

aussie rock icon Jimmy Barnes, this guy had no peers out here back in the day,
he and his band Cold Chisel even outsold the brilliant AC/DC...
"love the "a" side, its a classic rock and roll song,up there with the best rock and roll ever made from anywhere...
"b" side is okay, pretty sure this one is either a remix or a different version to the one i have on one of his albums???
single failed to set the charts alight, should have been a #1 hit but it stalled at #39 for some reason

PROCOL HARUM "a whiter shade of pale" b/w "lime street blues" 1967

this "a" side would be up there in my top10 songs of all time...
John Lennon thought the same...he once said that the first time he heard it it "blew his mind apart" and "this is the greatest song of the 1960s"...high praise indeed!
i habe no idea what this song is about, but whatever it is, its got "it"
unfortunately, the same cant be said for the "b" side, its a big let down after hearing the "a" side...
"b" side is simple straightforeward 1960s UK r+b pop
single got exactly where it deserved to get in the charts making it to #1

THE ANIMALS "house of the rising sun" b/w "bring it on home to me" 1964

without a doubt this "A" side is one of the greatestr songs i have ever heard, ive heard three or four versions of this song but nothing comes close to Burden's version here..
"b" side is also brilliant, again, heard several different version of this song, but this one is the best IMO
single only got to #2 here

A-HA! "the sun always shines(on tv)"

this one is a one-sides picture disc that was given away with the old Melody Maker music magazine(they did that every so often to promote artists)
this one isnt too bad, but its not as good as i remembered it to be
the real single reached #19 here

Elvis goes all country on us with this single...
this "a" side is up there with "alison" and "olivers army" for me...
"b" side is a good cover also
single failed to chart here

ALICE COOPER "how you gonna see me now?" b/w "schools out(live)" 1978

although i dont love this "a" side as much as "only women" i still like it,, much prefering his ballads over his rock stuff, a much more mature sounding AC here
"b" side, a live version of his 'signature tune'..i like this, but like i said, i prefer his ballads
single peaked at #9 here
