THE WHO "wont get fooled again" b/w "dont know myself" 1971
my intro to these guys was "you better you bet",loved that single and went and bought the "face dances" album, loved that also so i started looking for
old Who singles...bought this one and never looked back with these guys!...the "a" side is one of my favourite songs ever...and shows the Who at their best.
"b" side isnt too shabby neither, but its hard for anything to really stack up against the musical genius of the "a" side...awesome stuff!
was actually surprised this single only reached #14 here,it certainly deserved a lot better than that!

BRONSKI BEAT & MARC ALMOND "love to love you baby/i feel love" b/w "puit d'amour" 1987
another one i am shaking my haed at in disbelief(like the kim wilde one!)...
Marc was lead vocalist for Soft Cell in the early 1980s(remember 'tainted love'?)
i cant stand this piece of crap, dont even like the original "i feel love" so cant understand why i bought this at all, at least the "b" side is half decent, a nice acapella song...
this one only reached #34 out here and i think that was too high looking back on it!

ROD STEWART "twistin' the night away" b/w "let's get small" 1987
Rod's cover of the old soul classic...not bad at all IMO, his voice actually suits this track..
"b" side is an instrumental track performed by Gerry Goldsmith(never heard of him), and both tracks are taken from the soundtrack for the "innerspace" movie.
single reached #27 here.

THE STRANGLERS "no mercy" b/w "in one door" 1984
punk/new wave group from the UK...
this sinlge has all their usual trademarks, great stuff IMO and my second favourite Stranglers single, the MaCartney sounding 'golden brown' being my favourite.
"b" side is a piece of crap though, which is how i generally find their music...sort of a love/hate relationship!

PAUL & LINDA McCARTNEY "uncle albert/admiral halsey" b/w "too many people" 1971
i first heard of The Mac back in '76 as a nine year old when i heard "mull of kintyre"...
then when i i heard "coming up" in 80 i was hooked, started looking back over his career, found out he was in a group called The Beatles who i used to hear as a child on my parents record player...loved them and their singer...then later in 1980 the 'other' beatle john released "starting over", loved that, bought it and the next week he was dead!...
bought this one around the same time as Lennon's death...
was so surprised that it was never released as a single in the UK...WTF!
single made it to #5 out here...another great classic Macca track on the "b" side also in "too many people"

THE STYLE COUNCIL "speak like a child" b/w "party chambers" 1983
debut single from TSC...
great 'soul' song with lots of hammond organ attached...
"b" side follows the same formula with lashings of hammond organ..
probably close to being their best single, reaching #3 in the UK but only #29 here

SHAKIN' STEVENS "its late" b/w "josephine" 1983
Welsh 1950s rock n roll revivalist from the 70s through to the present.
managed to have a lot of UK hits(over 30 top40 hits in the 80s alone)...
this one is a cover of the old Ricky Nelson hit...reasonably good cover IMO, "b" side is written by Shaky...
single made the UK top10, but failed to chart here

SUZANNE VEGA "left of centre" b/w "small blue thing" 1986
jazzy feel to this track which features Joe Jackson on keys...very good "a" side that still sounds fresh today, the "b" side isnt too bad neither, typical Vega sounds on both sides though...single reached #35 here..would'a thought this would have got higher in the charts with the success of the movie it came from(pretty in pink)

BILLY BRAGG "days like these" b/w "i dont need this pressure ron" & "scholarship is the enemy of romance" 1986
highly politically charged single from 'the big nosed bastard from barking"!,
"a" side is basically billy with electric guitar(as is the third track), the second track is an acapella...
very good single from a poet at the top of his game, single failed to chart here...
