PAUL SIMON "the rhythm of the saints" cd,1990.

ive never really been a big fan of simon apart from the 'graceland' album and maybe half a dozen singles from the 1970s, and never really thought Simon & Garfunkel were anything but okay.....but this album IMO is an absolute classic, was highly praised back in the day but failed to turn the buying publics head as much as it should have...
lots of melencholy tunes here(typical of his music in general), lots of latin and tribal sounds happening also...absolutely love his wordplay here that paints pictures and images, something simon does really well at times...i notice that one Ringo Starr is credited for playing guitar on my favourite track here(i never knew he could do anything except be Thomas The Tank Engine, guess we all have hidden talents LOL)
this is Paul Simon at his best IMO and one of my favourite albums in my collection, great stuff...there may be a few better tracks on Graceland but this is more 'complete'as an album IMO, and im also surprised this one didnt score a bit higher(2.8/2.9)
just one question(probably for Jerome)....
there are numerous instruments here that ive never heard of and would love to know exactly what they are(heres the list)
uakti, euphonium, chicote, gourd, chakeire, sordu, birimbau, baiana guitar, bata and dobro....what the heck are they????

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Good enough songs here, but the synth keeps me from loving anything. Upfront on almost every
track. Even the track I thought had a shot, Say You, Say Me, couldn't make it. Still a decent
score with only one track I can say I don't like at all. Lionels' third solo album with five
singles released from the eight tracks. Highest charting being Say You, Say Me, at #1. Says
that was from the film White Nights which I'm not familiar with. Most of these are for the
dance floor, far better than what they play today, but still not my thing. He did make his
first entrance on the country chart with Deep River Woman, which includes backing by the
Alabama boys. No it's not country. The album reached #7 on the Billboard chart.

Some I know and some I don't - but I will find out. Seeing as the music was influenced by SOuth American rhythmns I would hazard a guess and say quite a few are latin percussive instruments. Just busy at the moment but give me a day or so. Unless someone else knows??

i just assumed you would probably know off the top of your head J-Man...im pretty sure they are mostly some sort of percussion instruments as that is the musical basis for that superb album
anyway, thanks for the effort in finding out as i have googled a couple and got nowhere???!!!

back to Lionel Ritchie...
was never a big fan of his 1980s material so i never got any his albums, i know three off this one, the title track, your best pick and 'deep river woman', all three were either top10 or top20 hits here...with your favourite one "say you,say me" my favourite also, except that one would get "***" from me without a doubt

MONDO ROCK "the greatest" cd,2004.

Aussie pop/psuedo white boy soul stuff from the 1980s...
vocalist Ross Wilson had been around since the mid 1960s, in two or three blues/blues rock bands...i didnt like much of what he did prior to this band, but obviously there are some tracks throughout his career that i like...his biggest band Daddy Cool were the biggest selling Aussie band out here until AC/Dc came alon, so you can imagine the general popularity of his through the decades...i believe he released another solo set only two or three years ago and is still touring here reliving his past glories as an artist(cant knock the guy for that i guess)...
anyway, this collection os a collection of all of the Mondo singles from the 1980s plus a couple of album tracks to fill up the alloted space on cds....
some nice tunes on here, especially in the first half dozen or so tracks and it does at times feel as though he is busting himself not to return to his old blues vocals in favour of the sacerine laced ones on here...these guys had a dozen or so top10 hits here over a period of three or four years, including one song that was initially banned on radio(come said the boy) which details a teenger losing his virginity to a more experiened female compaion, yep, the Catholic Church was up in arms when this was released,WTF i dont get it, its only a song afterall!!!!!, and that one is my favourite track here...they also do a jagger/richards cover here in "im free",showing that you can take the boy out of the blues but you cant keep the blues out of the man
although i do like this album it does score rather low for a so-called best of set, but it is still enjoyable for the most part IMO
