Which decade has better music?
#31
the 90s. Love the older rock n roll as well, but damm the metal bands in the 90s have me fanvote.

Alright, I know this may seem like a contradictory question But are we referring to the most personally appealing or those who were the most talented. Because most can't say that they only like music because someone truly talented had part in it. I will admit myself that I like a few dinky pop songs because they're catchy (and yes I am ashamed and listen to them only in the privacy of my own room and none of them ever make it onto my mp3 player) But if we are going sheerly based on talent that would invoke a slightly different response from me personally than if we were voting based on personal appeal.

Don't be ashamed to listen to catchy pop songs!

Vote which decade's music most appeals to you, whether it is for emotional response, respect, or most memorable.

I say 90s - most of my favourite bands were around in this decade, like Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots.

I can see the 90s being up there due to the grunge invasion, etc., especially for younger folks.

But the 80s ranking 4x higher than the 60s is inexcusable. The 80s are widely known as a dark decade for music, when production became glossy and plastic, and even the most well-respected artists of previous eras had sold out to big hair, drum machines and syth-pop. It was a very bad decade for rock in particular, with a few exceptions.

Of course, good music spans all decades, but if I had a gun to my head, I'd go with the 60s. The music from '65 to '70 stands the test of time, on average, better than anything, including the best of the grunge era. If it were a particular 10 years rather than the traditional decade, I'd pick '65-'75.

Maybe you haven't listened to the same music from the 80's that others have. Anyways, music taste is purely up to the individual. There is no "right" or "wrong".

I love the 60s because pretty much all of my favourite artists were around during that decade, and that's when soul had "soul"

Pretty tough decision but if I had to I would choose the 90s. No, not because of all this grungy bullshit but because of some of the greatest Japanoise records (Merzbow's Pulse Demon and Aqua Necromancer or Boredoms' Super ae), Boris' debut release (Split with Barebones), Dead Can Dance's 'monster' Into the Labyrinth, Tool's Undertow album or Still Life by Opeth.

I say 70s, out of opinion and keeping in mind that a lot of inspiration came from this time period, at least in the music I listen to. I think that inspiration factor really determines how good a band was. Imagine what music would be like without (two of my personal favorites) Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath?

I generally stick to the 70s and 80s, though, and I can be pretty doubtful of present day music, in that I won't give a band a shot if they formed in the last decade.

Maybe the same because someone else would've done what they did. Maybe even better...
