yep, you got that right
that's why my first time listens are rarely above 2.0
if I like something on a first listen, chances are I'll love it after a few

when i listen to new releases online now, i mark them the same as normal, if they score 2.0 or above i listen to them again, if they still get the same score, that is what i give them...
i stuffed up here when i first joined, giving Neil Young's "le noise" a love score(2.6ish)only to find myself embarrassed by it when i did the beginners guide (1.6ish)...
also rated Grinderman's "grinderman 2" very high also(2.6ish), i would now probably give it a low 2.0-2.3 score...so i am wary now about i rate new listens

Absolutely! It helps me to have a fellow music lover in the house. Some things I wouldn't want to hear again my husband will be listening to and then it will grow on me. Other times I just revisit things because one little thing caught my interest event though most of the album turned me off the first time.

I wouldn't think I'm old enough to have started doing this, but have definitely done it a few times.

Good one - never thought of that - by the way you were asking for instrumental albums - that's one of my favourites. Epic stuff. Here's one many do not know about -

I used to intentionally do it to upgrade. Nowadays the same song will be in another radio show, but normally it's in a different mix or the DJ did something to it, so for me it's okay.
