Zoey Van Goey ………………………………….Propeller Versus Wings

Took me a while to publish a review on this one…………………………..At the moment, I have been busy and occupied with other things but, this album was like a breath of fresh air and made me ant to review it!!


Track One Mountain On Fire Light and breathy vocals backed with a very mechanical backing is how this first track emerges from its packing file. Not really sure what this reminds me of but, it sure is interesting………………………………………


Track Two The Cake And Eating It. Another up ad at it approach which captures the attention fast . There is some aspects of punk about this. I think this band have something here!


Track Three Sackville Sun The instrumentation of this track reflects the rays of a yellow orange sunrise …………..it’s a happy song which reminds me somehow of the approached used by the Boo Radleys


Track Four My Aviator………..This singer has mastered the art of matching the feel of the song to the subject material as such she can produce those wonderful mind clouds that swirl with invention and atmosphere and can use them to control your thoughts……


Track Five Escape Maps..Another song with a great sound texture, it creates and shapes mood and puts the listener inside the song within micro seconds…………………..


Track Six You Told The Drunks I knew Karate I more direct approach. Almost “standup comic” set to music. Reminiscent of “They Might Be Giants”.


Track Seven Little Islands. A bit of a mediocre track this sounds nice but, lacks the impact of the others so far.


Track Eight Extremities A light and airy rack with swinging rhythm and a dancing beat.


Track Nine Robot Tyrannosaur This track has a heavier feel to it, it still bops and rocks along but it is a little more of a track which could be aimed at the singles market than many of the others on here.


Track Ten Another Day Another Disaster A good retro eel track with a stabbing rhythm and domestic lyrics


Track Eleven Where It Lands The last track! A nice gentle ballad.

This was a good listening experience, different and engaging.

I was definitely looking for something hipster-ish like this. I really dig this music. I was skimming through the recommendations and somehow the name of the band caught my eye and then the name of the track, you told the drunks i knew karate...i. was. sold. thanks Gryphon.
