Finally my wife's copy of Santana's Greatest Hits crapped out tonight...played it continually for a long time(CDs do wear out...I mean two years of continual playing !!!!...don't ask me ...always on in the background...she said " damn ..what do we listen to now ? I quickly grabbed the 20 song Live set by the BeeGees...and she always liked them as I do...so we're cool !!!!! Aussie group now playing - I Started A Joke Live !!!).
Oh oh...she said she's going to get another Sanatana Hits cd tomorrow....I tried !!! ..lol...apparently this segment of the BeeGees is "too folky" and she doesn't care for it ....???
the Engish born Gibb Brothers are brilliant, im just not keen on the disco/dance material, but i can still listen to it.
but i agree, they were fairly 'folky' in their early years and their harmonies are simply great.

just another footnote to the Farnham thing....
"whispering jack" album sold 1.7 million copies here in Oz in 86/87 to be the biggest selling album in Aust music history.... now 1.7 million may not seem like much but put it in context...our population was around 15 million back then which equates to approx 12% of the population owning a copy...now equate that to the US population of 350 million, if 12% of that population bought a particular record what would equate to nearly 40 million sales in the US alone....and when you think MJ's "thriller" is the only album to have sold that quantity in the US alone, then "whispering jack" was real huge back in the day!

those songs ring a bell, but i cant recall SteveO?....surprisingly though, i only own three seperate 'best of' sets by the BG's, but i have heard most of their post disco albums, and several pre disco albums.....
believe it or not i have never had the chance to see them in concert???...one of the biggest regrets, music wise , for me ever.

A thread on Aussie music that has yet to mention Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds?

I remember getting promo copies of Cold Chisel albums. Jimmy Barnes solo stuff got a little US air-play. And Rose Tatoo was one of those bands that just... almost... not quite got played outside of college radio in the States.
BTW, what ever happened to that on-line video channel The Basement in Australia? Just wonderin'...

Yeah, Murder Ballads is pretty good, but in my opinion, the Bad Seeds best album is very (and I mean very) easily "The Good Son"
