the easybeats 1964-1969.

like most Aussie artists back in the 1960s, the Easybeats were all of British descent, either being born there or first generation Aussies,

the lost noteable of the band's members were vocalist Stevie Wright,Harry Vanda and George Young, all of whom went on to fairly successful careers outside the band.

the Easybeats formed in Sydney in 1964 and over the next five years had a string of top 10 singles and albums here, their most successful and wellknown song "friday on my mind" was their only hit outside Australia reaching the top 10 in several european countries and making the US top20 in 1966, they were our first real homegrown rock band and owe a lot of their sound to the sound of the beat-bands coming out of the UK at the time. they were also quite an energetic live act as vocalist Wright was an accomplished acrobat and frequently performed acrobatics on stage.
unfortunately for them, alcohol and drug abuse caused the demise of the band.

post easybeats....

after the demise of the band Stevie Wright formed several bands without great commercial success until he joined newly formed Aussie label "albert records" and scored a mid seventies solo hit entitled "evie-pts 1,2 &3",a ten minute opus which could best be described as 'prog rock'.

meanwhile Vanda/Young went on to write numerous hits for Aussie artists before both were reunited with Wright at Albert Records. it was there that a newly discovered Aussie band called AC/DC of whom, two members were younger brothers of Young were writers, guitarists. George Young went on to produced the early AC/DC albums with Bon Scott on vocals, he then along with Vanda and Wright in the late 1970s formed Flash And The Pan who had a huge hit in Europe and Australia with "down among the dead men", an ode to the sinking of the Titanic, written by the three of them.
