Not sure if this has been mentioned (possibly even by me) and I'm not going to go back and look.
You Keep Me Hangin On by Vanilla Fudge kicks butt over the Supremes version.

I think Eric Clapton's acoustic version of 'Layla' is far better than his original offering.

Funny you should mention that for this is one I never gave it a thought to mention myself . There again is it really a cover ? Or being by the same artist is it just a different version ? Whatever the case I am with you on this one . The original version I hate . But when hearing it the acoustic version once I got into it I found that I do actually quite like . And though I could be wrong I belive that was done by Eric as such . As for the first version many consider it as Eric Clapton , but it was actually Derek And The Dominoes which Eric was in of course . Only one I know of done under that name .
The version of "I'm A Man" on the eponymous Chicago Transit Authority album is far better than the Spencer Davis original.
Also, though strictly not a cover as he released it first, Robert Wyatt's "Shipbuilding" knocks the version by Elvis Costello, the writer, into the next countyanal probeEscort Milano

One or two more I might mention when it comes to versions one preferes as much as each other . The song "Your Sixteen" . Like both the version by Johnny Burnetter and the version by Ringo Star .
"Cool Jerk " Versions by both The Capitols and Darts . "Magic Moments" Like both Perry Commo and Ronny Hilton's versions . Ronny's I think has better lyrics . "Let's Hang On " Like The Four Seasons , Darts , and Barry Manilow's versions . "We Can Work It Out" Both The Beatles and Franki Valli & The Four Seasons versions . "Love Is Strange" Both Buddy Holly and The Everly Brothers Will think of more no boubt . |
