Epica-Replica I think they made it better than the original song from Fear Factory...
Joe Cocker's "with a little help from my friends" was as good as the the original IMO.

I began to know the song from Nirvana - The man who sold the world; I really like this song.

Later I discovered it was a David Bowie cover. So I listened to the original and it is not even close to the Nirvana version!! The original does not even include the solo that I love so much in the Nirvana version.

So thats a good example for me.
I forgot

Blue Swede - Hooked On A Feeling
whoa!!.. didn't know many of those from Head's list were covers... eg:- Twist and Shout, Spoonful.

I like both the versions equally.. as they are both awesome.. but i agree cobain's version does have some additional charm to it.

I like Wallflowers "Heroes" as much as the original Bowie version.
I love Pet Shop Boys 'Always on my Mind' and I'm not really a fan of Elvis.

Nine Inch Nails 'Dead Souls' is nearly as good as the Joy Division version.

mostly though covers are nowhere near as good as the originals
Melanie's version of the Stones Ruby Tuesday does it for me.
