Rod's best album although I like a couple of others as well.
Busy falling asleep to Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions - Through the Devil Softly. About as laid back as an album can get.

ROD STEWART "a night on the town" cd, 1976.
another one from Rod that isnt too shabby....
his seventh....
again, from the box set i own....
another one where there is a 'slow side' and a 'fast side'....
and again, i love the slower side better than the rock numbers...
only one track i dont like, the cover of Manfred Mann's "pretty flamingo", sorry, but no one should be allowed to cover that.
and yet again, rod is the master of cover songs with half the album doing/being so...
love four track, like four and dislike the Flamingo cover...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
favorite was only a hit in the UK which means the rest of the world is stupid!

GENESIS "turn it on again: the hits" cd, 1999.
eighteen track compilation spanning the years 1973-1991.
well, actually theres one track from 1973 ("i know what i like"), the rest are from 78-91, Phil's years...
if i didnt know it was a Genesis album i would swear i was listening to a Phil Collins album and thats what bugs me about it, there isnt a blurred line, no line to cross to differentiate between his solo career and that of the band which i find infuriating.
another thing that irks me here is that the Peter Gabriel years only gets one track (most of which i am not familiar with).
overall though, there are some decent hits on here but i found it too much of a muchness (the Phil Collins factor i guess!), and i got bored with it fairly quickly but there was enough on here to make it worth more than the $1 price at a flea market a while ago...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
always loved this song and still do after all these years:

as much as i love Ben E King's original, i think Lennon makes his version his own for sure.

Probably my favourite Lennon track. 'How Do You Sleep' is a close second.

"How do You Sleep?",
when The Beatles split Paul started some subtle (and not so subtle digs at John) which led to this song.
for a bit of history on the feud:
1: Paul's first solo album "McCartney" cover.
![[Image: 220px-Paul_McCartney_-_McCartney.jpg]](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/39/Paul_McCartney_-_McCartney.jpg/220px-Paul_McCartney_-_McCartney.jpg)
show a spilt bowl of cherries, the old english phrase "live is a bowl of cherries" means 'all is well', the spilt cherries was a reference to the other three Beatles that their lives arent going to be so wonderful now the band has split.
theres also a song on the album called "teddy boy" about John who was a "mummy's boy", the title referring to john being a Ted or Teddy boy in the 1950s.
2: Ram, the second Paul solo set:
![[Image: 220px-RamMcCartneyBackCover.jpg]](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/58/RamMcCartneyBackCover.jpg/220px-RamMcCartneyBackCover.jpg)
this is the back cover and RHS there is a picture of 'two beetles screwing eachother', a dig at John Lennon and the lawsuit against Paul by the other three.
on the album are two songs, "too many people" which is another nasty dig at john by Paul, the other song "3 legs" is basically about the other three not being able to go on without him which enraged George, Ringo and Paul especially.
3: John then quickly wrote "how do you sleep?", a stinging attack on Paul in response to what Paul had been writing.
there is an in studio clip of the song where John turns to the camera and says "how do you sleep ya c--t" aimed at Paul.
4: Paul then realised that John wasnt going to let him get away with subtle digs by coming out with a direct attack on him so Paul stopped the 'in-song' references.
5: the following year Paul wrote "let me roll it" which later featured on Band On the Run as a peace offering in song, an apology if you will.
7: John joked (a veiled truth) in an interview that all Paul only writes "silly love songs" so in response Paul wrote Silly Love Songs...
afraid after that he may have reignited the fuse, Paul and Linda did visit John to avoid further issues between them and they ended up meeting quite a few times prior to John's senseless murder.
im not saying they ever became close again but at least there was some dialogue between the two.

ROD STEWART "foot loose & fancy free" cd, 1977
his eighth...
again, from the box-set of studio album...
another very good album from Rod (thats three in a row now)....
elements of hard rock on "hot legs", funk on "youre insane", dare i say Prog Rock on the Motown cover "you keep me hanging on" and the usual splash of ballads....
only a couple of covers on here, The Supemes' "(you keep me) hanging on", and the Luther Ingram "if lovin' you is wrong"....
only eight tracks on this album as songs range in length from 4:30 through to 7:28...
another excellent album from Rodney....
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
1: hot legs ***
2: youre insane *
3: youre in my heart ***
4: born loose *
5: (you keep me) hangin' on ***
6: if lovin' you is wrong **
7: you got a nerve ***
8: i was only joking ***
3s - 5
2s - 1
1s - 2
rating: 2.4
favorite is the (almost) Prog sounding Motown cover.
