what's for dinner/tea?
not bread related but similar....
my ex father-in-law (God rest his soul) was an Irishman and a baker before he retired.
he used to call the supermarket-chain bakers "sugar and shit specialists" because everything came in pre packaged and pre mixed and all they had to do was add a certain amount of water and sugar and put in the ovens, or warm up par-baked goods, all the time claiming they were bakers.

anyway, the man still had a couple of industrial ovens and stainless steel tables in his shed that he kept when he retired and i witnessed him on one occasion on a saturday morning make from scratch some scones, buns and bread (in industrial quantities for family and neighbours), it was like watching an Artisan at work.
there was a twinkle in his eye as he mixed ingredients by 'feel' and not by weight, it was like watching Michaelangelo paint the Sistine Chapel ceiling....
a true master of his craft, sadly his generation has all but turned to dust now and there are very few who have carried on the tradition who arent "sugar and shit specialists" because it is impossible to compete on price.

'Vrot' - now there's a word I have not heard in ages. Yes, the Italians know a thing or two about food. Probably repeating myself here but the best pizza I have ever tasted was in Naples. You would be amazed at how different it is from the 'pizza' we normally see. And a tray of about 15 or so condiments to go with it too. Mama Mia!

Focaccia and something - not entirely sure what yet, but it will be simple. Finally mastered a couple of sourdough based breads and have made a big problem for myself because now nothing else will do!  Rolleyes

Homemade quiche and salad. A lady down the road makes the most amazing quiche and sells it at the local store. Always buy a couple of slices and I am never disappointed. The woman is a magician with food.

a simple dinner planned for tonight:

lightly fry mushrooms and cherry tomatoes in sesame oil, add 250g of spinach leaves just enough to semi wilt,
mix through some crumbed feta and sliced black olives.
add a splash of salad dressing and there you have a nice "med-salad".

ive made this previously with salt n pepper squid and it is gorgeous.

im not generally a fan of Kangaroo as i find it quite tough with a strong gamey taste
but i decided to make a "roo stew" today for dinner,
parsnip, swede, carrot, onion, potato, celery and obviously roo-meat.
tasted reallt good as the gamey taste must have been absorbed into the gravy and the meat became really tender in the slowcooker.

made too much so leftovers for us tomorrow which is good because that was tasty
