316.1 million cases...

WOW! 3.8 million newly confirmed cases in the last 24 hrs
i wonder if this is due to the release of those rapid antigen test kits that are now being released?

numerous States go into "emergency mode" in the USA and MH's home State of Ky call in the National Guard to assist in hospitals.

327.1 million cases...

an increase of 6 million in the last 48hrs...

we had five new Omicron cases in Perth today and our State Premier has reintroduced mandatory mask wearing in all public indoor settings as from 6pm tonight...
its strange that he hasnt put a timeframe on it this time...?

(but better to be safe than have a wildfire of cases on the horizon)

It will spread - it did here and we've never stopped wearing masks. They reckon around 72% of the population has had Covid. If people are vaccinated, it is unlikely that they'll need hospitalisation and everyone I know who's had Omicron has recovered quickly - as though they had had a regular flu. No idea why I haven't had it because I've had contact with people who didn't know they had it until testing for one reason or another. Or maybe I did have it at some point and have an immunity. The numbers are so skewed one can't even assess much from them - our positive tests being a case in point - you can also buy testing kits over the counter and nobody is reporting the results to anyone. It certainly looks quite realistically (IMHO) as though the pandemic may become endemic. https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2022/1...-this-year

its a simple fact that we will just have to live with it just like we do with The Flu and its various infection/death rates that change on an annual basis.

here in Western Australia we have reached a pretty impressive 88% of the population over 12years have been 'double dosed' with many of us/those who have had at least one booster shot also...

our border restrictions are scheduled to open on 5th February, thats when i think we can expect to get our first real wave of Covid in the State (at least Omicron is a fairly mild one compared to the other strains).

latest stats:

330.8 million confirmed cases in the world over the last 2yrs.

an increase of 2.7 million cases over the last 2 days.

looks like the long term effects of contracting Covid are just starting to be confirmed/realised by experts:

335.3 million now...

4.5 million new cases in the last 30hrs.

i know two people in the UK have caught the new Omicron variant and they told me (according to their experience) that it just feels like a 'bad flu'.

4.2 million in the last 24 hrs...

only bonus is that this new variant is fairly mild for most people who contract it.
