Hope it sounds good...

Time will tell.
Only joking, but I'm sure something like this be available eventually, if the planet doesn't fry first.

The sad, sorry fact of the matter is that very few people can tell the difference between compressed MP3's and the original masters.

yes,
and cd's are not going anywhere, remember vinyl?,
all the experts said vinyl would disappear with the rise of cd's (mid 1980s)
yes sales of vinyl declined for 20 odd years but well established artists still released their material in that format throughout and the format maintained a niche market.
then around 2000 the younger generation were actively seeking out vinyl and more newer artists started releasing their material on cd and vinyl, the vinyl tended to be of limited pressings of only a few thousand at a time.
and now in 2021 vinyl is outselling cds in some markets, the UK being one such market.
so although cd sales are still on the decline they will be around as a recognised and regular music format just as vinyl is.
that said most newer cars in Australia (and probably other countries also) do not have cd players fitted as a standard feature but rather use bluetooth connections so people can play their streaming service playlists.
and as Jerome said 'most people cant tell the defference between compressed MP3's and original masters' they do serve their purpose at times.

why is that sad?
just because something is different doesn't make it better

I think you might be misunderstanding me MH. I meant that people don't seem to be able to tell the difference between compressed MP3's and the original analogue recordings they are derived from. It's sad because they cannot seem to tell the difference in the quality of the original analogue masters and the 'ripped' mp3's (copies) of the original material. The original analogue vinyl albums sound 'warmer' to me than the mp3's of the same material on YT for example.
