THE STYLE COUNCIL "the cost of loving" vinyl/cd 1987
okay
so lets put this one in 'soul/r+b" because of the 'blue-eyed soul' sound
the band's third studio set, a let down after the first two
Weller is still preaching his left-wing socialist political views
two singles off it, "it didn't matter" a UK top 10 and "waiting" which peaked at #52
which ended up being their lowest charting single and Weller's lowest charting single
of his career up to that point, in fact it took until 2000's "he's the keeper" to chart lower.
back to the album,
some catchy tunes
not as bad as I remembered it to be, except that horrible rap song.
album's tracks were also featured in a short movie called "Jerusalem" the band made to promote
the album, it bombed dreadfully at the UK cinemas culminating in the start of the end for the band.
the singles:
"it didn't matter" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xmh7DIh39x4 video
"waiting" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umXMpAIAx6Y video
my favourite track: "Jerusalem" movie version

heres the one i chose on this occasion:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

MARVIN GAYE "gold" cd, 2001
second disk of a two disk set
fifteen tracks
covers the years 70-82
love the earlier stuff on here, not too keen on the 70s sounding soul
nor the early eighties stuff but its still passable.
several tracks from his superb What's Going On album which is always a bonus
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
favourite:

SADE "diamond life" vinyl/ cd, 1984
debut set.
multi-platinum everywhere that counts, sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
four singles released, all had varying degrees of chart success.
have a love/hate with this album
sometimes I love it, other times it bores me to tears,
I guess it depends on the ambience of what im doing at the time.
this time im painting a couple of walls in my music library where ive just installed
extra shelving compartments for my music.
good that no one was around because tone-deaf Lloyd was attempting to put
on his best 'blue eyed soul' voice, hahaha.
anyway, I LOVE THIS ALBUM
could have picked at least half this album to post so I left it up to YT's first selection when I searched "sade"

EMINEM "the marshall mathers lp" cd, 2000
return to an old friend this morning....
one of the ten most played albums in my collection.
the standard to which all other rap albums are judged.
love the track layout here whereby tracks are interlinked with little skits
and so called 'public service announcements.
just about every track on here is a cracker as Em discusses his life in graphic detail.
offset that with humour, quick witted wordplay, I mean seriously, the dude is up there
with Dylan as a lyricist.
and to top it off the album contains "stan", one of the greatest songs ever written iMO.
album sold well over 20 million worldwide.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM.
the mega hit:
and the spine chilling live version at the Grammy's with Elton John (so much for being a homophobe LOL!)

This little number just goes to prove for me rap is boring in any language.

I may have posted this here before but it’s one clip I keep coming back to.
What often strikes me about this concert, apart from you know who, is the tightness and power of the backing band and singers. The bass guitarist though appears to be the driving force behind it all.

I suppose this is rap? Candy coated rap?
Are these blokes (guys in the US) serious or are they sending the whole gay thing up?
As an old fairy myself I sure as hell wouldn’t be attracted to any man in those prissy lace outfits. The music itself is utter crap.

These days it appears the visuals are almost the whole point (if you can figure out what the f**k it is?). Has to be as the ‘music’ is vacuous rubbish.

If I was Beyoncé I’d sue for this one.

GRACE "FMA" cd, 2016.
Aussie R+B/soul singer...
debut album of one.
goes by the stagename SayGrace now...
eighteen years young when this was recorded...
REAL r+b here.
sounds like Amy/Adele and Joplin.
influences are Amy, Bassey and Joplin.
one cover on here, Lesley's "you dont own me",
superb version, even the little rap segue fits nicely.
cant fault anything off the album, superb stuff
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
BTW, FMA is young persons lingo for Forgive My Attitude.
the #1 Australian hit:
another of the singles:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.
